many years ago a buddy of mine and I got drunk and ate an entire 21 piece bucket of chicken ourselves....I thought I was going to die that night, chicken was streaming from every orifice I had including my nose....for about 5 years every time I passed a KFC on the highway and smelled it, I would start gagging....

so much for being a drunken pig...:

They found those violations at several restaurants? I've seen all of them at one restaurant on more then one occasion! When your job takes in the kitchen of many restaurants and grocery stores you see stuff that the public wouldn't believe. One major restaurant chain (from down under) hadn't drained or cleaned the dishwasher for weeks. The pump intake was 80% blocked(less water to be pumped across dirty dishes) and clogged wash arms(even more restriction). It took us 2 hours to get it clean. Yuk! I could go on and on. You learn where to eat real quick.

As far as KFC, I have found them to be middle of the road, not too dirty, not too clean. Because of all the frying that goes on, the floors a re greasy and batter gets everywhere. Unsanitary oven? Pardon me but a 450 degree oven seems pretty sanitary to me. A 350 degree fryer sounds pretty safe also. Some health departments are getting ridiculous with what they consider unhealthy. The local health dept here is caster happy. Everything must be on casters. They even tried to have one of my customers put casters on a 450 lb ice machine that was hard piped to the water and drains. duh!

Bottom line is it ain't like an operating room in a commercial kitchen. Better not to think about it.

If the health dept came to your house you would have to:

caulk all baseboards and wood trim and any open gaps in counters, cabinets etc.

replace all appliances with NSF approved appliances $$$

hang thermometers in your freezer and refrigerator to monitor temperatures.

install a three compartment sink

install a grease trap system

install an air door at the outside entrance to the kitchen

install an exhaust hood with make-up air

and much more...
