Still looking for the correct answer,,,,

I'm going to let this one ride for a few days, and give others a chance to find the answer. I said it was a tough one. I think Blackcat is on the right track.

Ed - you answered OJ Simpson. I couldn't sleep last night thinking maybe OJ had topped the person I am thinking of,,,,so I crashed the Alley Cat's computer data terminals all night long and found out that my answer to the question still has a four person lead over your pick, OJ, lol.
I'll give you credit, OJ has probably been seen by many the world over, but the question states: "I've been the most seen athlete shown on television - not the most seen unconvicted murderer. Excellent answer though

Vinko Bogataj of Slovenia

The Ski jumper who was part of "The Agony of Defeat" clip on ABC's Wide World of Sports.

That is my final answer!

And the winner is: PUMPKIN

CONGRATS,,,,Norm or Pat or both,,,,,,,,,,,somebody there dug up the answer! Spanning the globe,,,,thrill of victory [AC],,,,the agony of defeat [F/P]

Vinko jumped for the Yugoslavia team,,,,,,the fall occurred in 1970 at Oberstdorf.
He was unaware of his popularity,,,until ABC Sports did a special in the early 1990's, and brought him to the U.S.

Thank you all for playing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It was a joint effort. Pat did most of the dirty work but after many, many phone calls and library runs the answer prevailed. It was fun playing and being the winner is gratifying. Please send all prizes to our current address.
