where were you when you heard the news....

...I was in 7th grade math class, Mr Wanley was the teacher....the announcement came over the speakers, it got quiet and we were sent home....I remember being out of school for several days and building a Revell 1/25 scale "Stone Wood and Cook" 41 Willys model car while watching the funeral march on a small TV.....didn't really grasp the importance of it all...I also remember being at a buddys house and seing Oswald get shot on TV....

I was a freshman in high school and I was at lunch. Another student stopped me in the hall and told me what had happened. Then we were all told to go to the study hall where the principal gave what details he had.

The following weekend I was frying myself an egg and watching as Lee Harvey Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby. It was surreal to see it all unfold on national TV.

I recall being pretty sad and upset about the events, but at the same time I was reassured by the peaceful transition of power to LBJ.

I was in grade 4 in Detroit... there was a knock at the classroom door, The teacher went into the hall for a couple minutes came back in crying and told everyone to go home, "The President has been shot "

on a normal day kids would be running home yelling, playing, making a hell of a racket.....
on this day nobody made a sound ... just walked home in silence....

I remember it like yesterday ...

I was only 2. I do not remember the day it happened, but some of my earliest memories are of people talking about JFK and LBJ. I remember we had those colored magnet letters and my mom putting those two "words" on the fridge and me trying to pronounce them.

I was in Mrs. Powells 5th grade class. I remember it came over the PA system and the following deafening silence. It was strange to see teachers crying. Sad day.

I was in 8th grade and we were having band practice. We couldn't hear the PA system because of the music. School was dismissed early and they left us there not realizing that we didn't hear the announcement.

I was home from college recovering from surgery. I was working in a toy store for the upcoming Christmas season.
I remember it like it was yesterday. profoundly sad. I also watched Lee Harvard shot by Ruby. And John John saluting his father, images that last a lifetime.

I was working at Lunkenheimer's, the one GREAT name in valves. (they have been closed for years). I remember it vividly but they did not send us home from work.
I have since visited the Texas Book store. The grassy knoll is tiny compared to what I had pictured in my mind. It is a triangle and is proably only 10' wide at the widest end and 30 or 40 feet long, coming to a point. I was always fascinated by the assassination. I don't think Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I think someone was behind it all. I have no idea who.

I was at school in the 4th grade. A friend and I were outside dusting erasers on a stump (a honor to get selected for this chore). We came back to class and the class was silent listening to a radio broadcast about the assination. Our teacher was crying. We were sent home early.

I was in high school, sitting in a study hall when it came over the school loudspeakers.

Today is also the day that my younger brother passed away 7 years ago.....at the age of 37. Kind of makes for a rough Thanksgiving.

I was only 1 when it happened. I learned of it in grade school history class and remember asking my mom about it. She welled up with tears just talking to me about it.

Did it look something like this?
It's right behind mine in the NHRA Museum.
