Here is an engineering feat for you.
Engineers are arguing whether or not a boat adds weight to the bridge when the boat passes over it...watcha tink? Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long.......now this is engineering! But, did they need to think of the weight of the boat when designing it or does the water displace the weight?
This is a channel-bridge over the River Elbe and joins the former East and West Germany, as part of the unification project. It is located in the city of Magdeburg, near Berlin. The photo was taken on the day of inauguration. To those who appreciate engineering projects.....

Weight is weight but I would think it would be more evenly distributed to the bridge thru the water.

That is cool!

my guess, if it did weigh more with the boat, the weight of the boat would be miniscule compared to the weight of the water and not make any great difference...should be easy to test....

I'd say Archimedes' principle would apply and the weight stays the same with boat or no boat, assuming the overall water level stays the same (which it should in an open system like this).

Archimedes' Principle
