Has anyone had experience with both a Porter Cable and a Waxmaster/Sears Random-Orbit polisher? I've had a couple of the Waxmaster/Sears polishers for years but am considering the Porter Cable unit. I use a three step detail process on CJ's cars, cleaner, swirl hider and polish/wax. By the time I complete one car, the constant vibration has me worn out. I was reminded of this this past weekend when I used a polisher to clean up our pontoon boat. I'd appreciate comments from anyone with experience. |

I have the porter cable...I like it. I bought it through Griot's Garage. Their polishes and pads work great too. |

GRROWL (aka "Dr Detail") here on POA suggested I buy the Porter-Cable Random Orbiter when I was looking for something to detail my Prowler. He had only great things to say about it so I bought one. It's easy to use and the results have been very good. |

I agree you need a radom orbital polisher - Porter is the best. Look for one like in the picture . This one can't burn or score the paint and limits hand fatigue. Polisher This message has been edited by MeanGene on 11-16-2005 at 04:17 PM |

Bob. I picked up the Porter Cable unit a few weeks ago and am very happy with it. I spent a lot of time with it over a few days and didn't suffer that kind of fatigue. The Porter Cable also offers an addtional counter weight for anti vibration. I don't have that add on. I looked around a little and didn't see much difference in delivered price but did like the package options offered by www.Autogeek.net. Service was outstanding, ordered Tuesday and took shipment on Thursday coming from New York. You are welcome to stop by and handle it if you like. Bob, Probably the best place to buy a Porter-Cable 7424 Car Buffer / Polisher, http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/a/port/7424_car_buffer.htm?L+coastest+cxmn7090ffaa23aa+1092442819 . It comes with one 6" Foam Polishing Pad #54745, I would order a couple more to have around. BTW, I love mine. Al |

I also have one that I use with my ADAM'S line of detail products. Love them and the polisher. ------------------ |

Thanks for all of the advise and comments. I was hoping that someone had used both products and could shed some light on the vibration levels. I recognize that the Porter Cable machine is far superior to the Waxmaster/Sears polishers. The notes about the different counter weights for different size pads mentions that excessive vibration may be caused by use of the wrong counter weight kit. Let me rephrase my questions. What diameter pad is recommended? What speed is recommended for light polishing? I guess that I'm looking for a better polishing solution than I currently have (Waxmaster/Sears with microfibre covers used to apply the products). |

RPL; If you are having problems with vibration bothering your hands and arms, get a pair of jell gloves.I wear them when I use my weed wacker and my impact. Neal ------------------ |

Neal, I never thought of using a weedwhacker to shine the car but the long handle would make it easier to reach the low spots. Thanks for the tip. Is this site great or what!!!! |

At least everyone is still into having a good time! I love it! I'll try a set of gel gloves. I use them when shooting big bore hand guns and they really help. My biggest problem isn't my hands but my upper arms and shoulders. That whole lot of shaking going on tires them out. I'm going to finish this season with my existing equipment. Its worked well for ten years. Next spring I'll try the Porter Cable unit when I have more time to experiment with different size and types of pads. |

I only have experience with Howard's 1st two photos --otherwise nada...but have enjoyed reading all the comments anyway! Good luck "shake, rattle, and rolling..." RPL |
