October 121950s Little Richard quits Rock ‘n’ Roll to attend Oakwood College with the intention of becoming a minister. A near death experience on a plane while on tour (in Australia) convinces Richard to “do God’s work.” He denounces Rock ‘n’ Roll but returns in a few years (after being ordained). 1957 1960s Little Richard returns (see). He headlines a show in Liverpool, England. One of the opening acts is the soon-to-be famous Beatles. Little Richard teaches Paul McCartney his scream. Whooooo. 1962 The Jimi Hendrix Experience with Jimi (guitar), Noel Redding (bass) and Mitch Mitchell (drums) forms in London. 1966 John Sebastain, leader of the Lovin’ Spoonful, leaves the group, long after their prime, for a solo career. 1968 1970s Great ‘50s Rocker Gene Vincent dies of a bleeding ulcer. 1971 Elton John’s two record set “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” tops the charts. 1973 Rod Stewart performs his last show with The Faces before leaving to pursue his solo career full time. The group disbands two months later. 1975 The Sex Pistols` Sid Vicious is arrested in New York for the murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. He dies from a heroin overdose while out on bail. 1978 1980s Guitars take a beating. The Who, with The Clash opening, play NY’s Shea Stadium. This occurs during one of The Who`s countless farewell tours. 1982 1990s Nirvana’s mega “Nevermind” LP enters the U.S. charts. 1991 Nirvana’s live “From The Muddy Banks of the Wishkah” enters the U.K. album chart. Also, “The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus” is finally released. Filmed in 1968, the planned TV special never airs. The show also features The Who and a performance by John Lennon (with Eric Clapton, Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell and Stones` guitarist Keith Richards playing bass). 1996 2000s John Mellencamp performs at the Milburn Elementary School gym in Baldwin, NY for Nickelodeon`s Speak Up, Rock Out contest. The sweepstakes is part of the network`s “Kids Pick the President” campaign, encouraging young people across the country to submit original lyrics about the freedom of speech. The winner is seven-year-old third grader Anthony Viggiano who comes up with the line "I feel tomorrow holds out its hand to me." Meanwhile, after years of agony, KISS` Paul Stanley undergoes hip-replacement surgery. Extensive physical therapy follows. As Stanley is sidelined, Duran Duran’s original line-up returns with “Astronaut” containing “(Reach Up For The) Sunrise.” 2004

Mr. Bell:I am constantly amazed at your knowledge (or your ability to cut and paste text! LOL). Sindenote to today in Rock: All indications are that Paul Stanley has recovered to his pre-surgery form. The mighty KISS headlined the "Rockin' the Corps" event a few months ago (check out the DVD!) and played for the Honda Corporation just a few weeks ago. There may be a tour in the offing next year.... Kevin
