I don't get it. I lived in Houston for 20 years, went through a several hurricanes, and there wasn't this much coverage. Yeah, Houston will flood, it's under sea level too, but I think the media are going a little too far in crying wolf. I don't get it. This message has been edited by redman on 09-21-2005 at 02:30 PM |

You might be right, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. It's a short 12 hour drive from Houston to Huntsville right now. |

Redman, they are claiming this is the thrid most powerful Huricane in recorded history. Katrina was fourth. Maybe that will help put it into perspective. I think the New Orleans folks figured just like you! Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt and then they had an O $**** moment before almost 1000 died. Everyone thinks it can't happen to them. Hopefully you are right and we will all be wrong. |

quote: Yeah I seen that, but did you notice he was pushing it towards Galveston? He's going to park her on the seawall to collect the insurance and put the ol gal out of her misery. |

Ron - you were right, Mickey was heading to Galveston Island with the Voyager. After the van goes under 20 feet of water,,,he won't have to change out the 13 yr old OEM coolant/hoses, and his overheating problems will be over with! Good plan,,,,he'll probably come out of this with a new '06 Caravan. |

quote: Except I am a transplant from Houston. I lived through the strongest hurricane to hit houston that came through in 1983. I remember just sitting and watching tv while it was going over. Yes there was flooding, there always is, but I do not think the flooding will be as bad as alison from 4 years ago, where you had semi's floating down I-10. My family still is in houston off hwy 59, so I am concerned, but I fear that if it misses, or is not as damaging as the one 4 years ago that just sat over houston for 3 days, people will not be concerned when a bigger one hits. So, yes, I do have first hand knowledge. Just because i left texas doesn't mean i don't love the state and my family that still lives there. |

HHHHH HHHHHHH HHHHHH HHHHHHH ..... sorry folks, HHHHHH, I'm a little out of breath here. I've been pushing this damn van against the wind all day, but I finally made it to Galveston. WHERE's RITA, DAMN IT!?!? Just FYI, to those that don't know, I went thru Alicia too. Cat 3. 115mph winds when it got over Houston. That was pretty scarey. (I was also in a minimal hurricane with 75mph winds before. I was out in shorts washing off the Blazer with a t-shirt in the rain. Not very bright, but it did need a wash job. I actually did it in the eye, so it wasn't too bad.) This is not being over-hyped. Rita IS a VERY dangerous storm and advance warnings are definitely needed. I think people realize that and will be glad they left, even if it doesn't hit. I have a friend that thinks its neet and actually wants to be in a hurricane to see what it's like. I told her, "NO you don't!" |

I can't believe they did not make all the roads one way, out of town several days ago. Who needs to get into town? People sitting still with gas prices and a gas shortage for hours trying to flee. That is ludicrous. Let the inbound traffic take the back roads and let everyone get out of town early. The people in charge are total idiots in almost every community, unfortunately. |

They're one way now, and it still isn't working... I flew back from houston tonight a 4500 ft in awe. This message has been edited by 01Prowler on 09-23-2005 at 01:17 AM |
