The first of Oct I head off on a camping trip to Africa to the Okavango Delta near the border of Angola, Namibia and Botswana, Kruger national park in South Africa. So I thought I'd post a snake photo from Angola. Hope to have more interesting stuff to post when I get back in late October.

Uh Bob if you find that cute little critter in your sleeping bag I bet you'll be wishing you camped at Skyline Drive instead.

I know it well "Slang" in Africans.
I spent 18 months in the army there in the "caprivi Strip" and if that Mother gets you ...you only have minutes till the heart stops ha ha ha .. look out for the scorpions they are just as mean
Be safe and send my love

Notice how his fangs are pointed towards his throat. That's so when he swallows you you can't crawl back out before being crushed.

Russ & Cathy - This will be my fifth trip to the Delta. I lived in Gabs for 3.5 years. Before that I lived in Sudan and I also worked in Angola.

Did you ever camp at Baines Baobabs in Botswana like so many South Africans?

As you know, no trip to Africa would be complete without a stop in BEAUTIFUL Cape Town and a visit to the wine country in the Cape and Paarl!

Interesting looking snake-proof fence. How many volts of electricity does it carry?

I don't know, but you see these fences normally around game parks that are near urban areas to keep the critters from getting out. In the more remote locations, you don't see these fences at all. This particular fence was in Angola.

never really camped in the sense of the word. I was in the army and that was in 87' had to do my conscription and it wasn't any fun... but yes the Cape is very beautiful.
Have a great time ... no hurricanes there so enjoy and drink lots of good wine... some good ones to try "Buitenvervagting" Chardenay. and Meerlust merlow
Have fun
Russ
