As I said in another post-Rigs closed and evacuated in the gulf yesterday. Gasoline prices rose 18-20 cents depending on supplier.

Saw $2.399 at a few stations in Detroit last night. We'll see where they go today. On the Friday before Labor Day, gas was $3.499 everywhere around our cottage in the middle of Michigan. The Governor went on TV at noon and threatened an investigation into price gouging unless prices came down immediately. Guess what, by 1:00 they were all at $2.999. Go figure!

A/CHeard on the radio today you can get gas in Surprise, AZ for $2.74 / gal. So let's see ..for you and me..that's a real deal..only it will cost us half a tank of gas to get there to buy it... Can you believe the DJ actually recommended to drive there to get it?

Prowlrman Jim - Yes,,,that is sad he would suggest that. I paid $2.85 a gallon today,,,and felt I stole it compared to some station prices. Also, I heard today that if Houston gets a direct hit with a #5 category hurricane,,,and their five refineries are damaged or suffer long shut downs,,,,we can expect $5.00 per gallon gas for a short amount of time. Its not about a supply problem of Arab oil,,,,,,,the Arabs will just drop ship the tanker loads to whichever country wants to pay the highest price for it.

Wholesale prices have gone up 30 t0 37 cents in the last 2 days.I have been at an Exxon meeting for 2 days. Their supply people talk of dire supply problems as a result of Rita. They and Citgo evacuated and shut down their Houston offices yesterday. Exxon's Baytown, TX refinery (largest in the world) was closed also. All other suppliers tell of even worse predictions of supply shortages. It's gon'na be a tough week.

Was $2.59 when I went by in the morning yesterday and last night going home was $2.69, can't wait to see where it is tonight when I get home. So many stations are out of gas around here with the evacuations from south Texas. Ken went to 11 stations today before he could get gas. People are actually hoarding it in anything they can put it in. TThis message has been edited by TFischer on 09-23-2005 at 01:15 PM

I finally found gas around here a little while ago. $2.89 for premium, but that's the only grade they had left. Several other stations around are out.
