I saw on two network news shows this morning trying to suggest that the people in New Orleans aren't being helped because they are "poor and black".

I am disgusted with this type of so called journalism. This was a massive disaster, it has destroyed more than just that city, it has killed/injured/made homeless all walks of life and they have to start this crap.

When I see the pictures of these desprate people, I don't see the color of their skin, I see a human beings that are in need.

The networks trying to spin this disaster with blatant political agendas should be ashamed. Shame, shame, shame on you trying to make this story of tragedy into something more!

KK ... you are right ... and this is another example of what is wrong with our great country ... we give the journalists too much power to taint the American people ... I just heard some reporter on CNN start to state that given the caos and lack of releif that is being portrayed, that we are VERY vulnerable to a terrorist attack -- that guy should be fired ... in more ways than one!

What is that they say? If you're not part of the solution...you're part of the problem. The media has a heavy liberal bias. You always here the worst side of everything that they report. Do you see anything on the people working around the clock helping? Is it half empty or half full? Yes, these people face a long road to recovery. What do they need? Help, not someone creating more controversy. There's plenty of time for that latter. The only thing that matters now is helping those in dire need.

Instead of running down there with a truck full of TV equipment and a big dish so they can report all the bad news and what the President isn't doing via satellite, why didn't they take a truck full of bottled water?

The media is no longer about good journalism and hasn't been for a long time...we are just slow learners.....real slow, and get played like fiddles on a daily basis! They are absolute prostitutes (and I don't mean to sound rude) they are all about selling their wares and will use any tactic to out sell the next guy, sleazery is in, look at jerry springer....he's a hit....need I say more. Want to see change....don't buy their sh*t, don't watch their crap, it is only us who can raise the standards and force change. When choosing a news channel, search around, try some global stations, sometimes it's true...."we can't see the forest for the trees".

I respectfully ask how conservative-bias journalism would have reported this? I for one wouldn't want their job. The smell of death. The sights that will haunt them for life by memory banks that can't be erased. The sound of misery at it's worst. Were they wrong to report that millions had been taken away from wetland revitalization so that we could rebuild Baghdad? Were they wrong to report about people that had been denied basic survival needs?

I did hear many reporters that shared their water with the worst cases. With that said, did Air force One bring pallets of water? If so, I missed that.

Would it have been better to just ignore the suffering and go about our comfortable lives?

AS far as reporting our weaknesses to the world, I've heard both sides do that and that never made sense to me.

Having said these things that will regretfully turn some against me I just thank God I know where all of my family is, that my closet is full of clean clothes, my shower and toilet that works, and for my refrigerator and stove, my job, and for never knowing the reality of this tragedy personally, and that Laddie and his family are ok as well as other POA members. Amen

I saw a little bit of an interview with Jesse Jackson. I would presume he is a millionaire after strong arming all of the corporations. I wonder what he did for his people! Why do they interview him and his co-horts? He can say whatever he wants but no one else can or they are called rascist.

Some people won't like this either but here goes.

Watching CNN tonight it seems like there is two different mentalities at work in this disaster.

In one clip they showed people walking out of the disaster area to try to get to where there is food and water.

All the other clips showed people staying in the disaster area demanding help from the government.

And I'm talking about the able bodied people here, not handicapped or the elderly.

Don't know what I would do unless it really happened to me, but I would hope I'd take the initiative to try to get to help if none was coming to me.

One of the things I find mind boggling was a scene where an aerial shot panned over a HUGE school bus parking lot. The water level was over the hoods. So not only are the buses damaged but they could have evacuated a lot of people that don't have cars. Load them up and head north. It would have saved a lot of people and saved the buses. That was just one bus lot.

I also saw the pictures of the bus lot.
Wasn't it saturday or sunday the New Orleans mayor said they were going to commander vehicles to evacuate people?
And now he is screaming for busses, weren't school busses good enough for him?

There are at least 200 buses visable in that pic not counting those out of frame. I'm pretty sure you could get 50 people at least on each bus. So 10,000+ people could have been evacuated and this is just one bus lot. Tragic!

SirReal, Your last post about the buses is so true.

It's a shame in the big cities all around this country the local governments wait to see what the Feds will give them before they will commit with their own resources, the mayor of New Orleans reacted the same way and he now has to live with his decision (he will try to pass the buck like they all do). Ultimately the local governments are in-charge of the emergency at hand (getting people out of harms way). His failure to get people out has multiplied the problem for the federal and private relief organizatons that now need to pick up the ball and save his citizens.

I for one would like to say I love Jerry Springer,He lets was know what's going on in trailer parks around the country.

As far as the rest of the people wanting Gov.t help. From what I see they have time to haul away big screen tv's not belonging to them but they can't go north to help themselves'.(where you going to use the big screen TV)They have only talked about what would happen to that town if a category 5 hit it for 20 years. But yet they stayed.Sorry about you luck.Who want's to bet me 500 million dollars they build rite back there agian. In my thoughts it would be better to drain lake punchatrain in to the city and rebuild on the floor of lake punchatrain.(at least your 12 to 15 ft.higher)
As most of you know Moddersville sits about 200ft about sea level but when we get 20 ft. of snow we don't wait for the gov.t In fact we get NO gov.t help here in Moddersville!(what dose that make us)

look at Jerry springer....he's a hit.

Even better than Jerry Springer, I saw last night that they now have Geraldo on CNN ... and he's playing up to the "situation" that no one is helping these people ... all for what -- ratings!! Even Greta has left Aruba for N.O. to get her station back in the hunt for ratings ... and Meancat ... you are right, shopping carts being pushed through 3' of water loaded with stolen new luggage (with WHAT inside if anything) but they could't high tail it BEFORE the storm hit ... I wonder if the same chaos is happening in the other 2 affected states, but from what I hear/see -- not. So does it really say anything then about a "race" issue then or just something more about "people"? Jesse Jackson hasn't shown up yet to shoot his mouth off about this and the oppression "his people" are being dealt by the Bush administration -- but give him time!

I don't recall hearing of the looting and violence taking place in Indonesia after the Tsunami, when a quarter of a million people were washed away in seconds. This behaviour speaks huge volumes about our culture....or lack of it. The lack of genuine help is quite shocking. We will either pay attention and be embarrassed as a specie, or we will shrug it off and do the easy thing...nothing! I predict the later.......unfortunately.

Ray, Jesse was on CNN Thursday evening playing the race card.
A couple questions for Jesse,
How much did YOU contribute?
Did you see any white people shooting at the helicopters or shooting each other in New Orleans?
How come there are so many cars in the water and not in another state? Why didn't they leave when they were told to leave?
How come it is okay for you to be a racist but not a white person?

Ed....

i could see this coming from the first day... 70% of the population of N.O. is black...
this is an unfortunate circumstance... not a conspiracy.....

Jesse is just a loudmouth looking for attention...

the Media wants this to play forever .. or at least untill some other misery comes along to focus on....

...Geraldo and the gang will leave N.O. as soon as the next young blond girl disappears, they are far more photogenic and get great ratings....N.O. will only be a distant memory with monthly updates ....

... and how about poor Mike Meyer standing next to this uneducated, untalented, big mouthed black rap artist who blurts out on NBC that "George Bush doesn't like black people." I mean, nice quick cut away by the TV crew, would LOVED to have seen M.M.'s reply to that SOB he was standing next to ... maybe M.M. would have said "... and Jesse Jackson doesn't like white people" and then be labeled a racist by all blacks ... but NOT that rapper ... he is just "speaking his mind" .... shameful how this will never go away (black versus white) because mostly, some blacks won't let it.

mostly because they refuse to help themselves...
