I am disgusted !Having just seen the news and watching those low life scumbags M@therF@c#ers looting stores, busting in windows, hauling off stuff, just makes me sick. As if the city doesn't have enough problems with the devastation, now Law enforcement cannot GET this situation under control. IMO order shoot to kill if you can't show a receipt for the TV you're carrying around ! This message has been edited by Dustis on 08-31-2005 at 04:45 PM

Sick. Now they are going into the houses and gutting them.More damage will be from them than the storm. They make every one get out of town and they stay back to loot. Why don't the national guard and the police at least give them their autos so they don't have to carry the stuff. That way they at least can say they helped. They are breaking the law, breaking the law. What is martial law and what group of people has to obey it. This message has been edited by pumpkin on 08-31-2005 at 05:25 PM

Now the looters are saying that all they are doing is trying to feed their families.Stealing TVs is feeding your family? TVs with no power?

It's a damn shame. Shooting them will only bring you down to their level...although the thought has entered my mind. Ther person that figures out the solution deserves the Nobel peace prize--brain transplants??

...I certainly do not condone theft, but there is another side of it from the viewpoint of many retailers....food items... ...most will be unsaleable anyway after a few days, might as well be consumed...saves the stores from the labor expense to destroy it at a later date....NO RETAILER would be allowed, or want to have foods for sale that had been subjected to the rancid humidity, mold etc etc...they probably welcome the removal of the merchandise, again, saves them the time and labor to have it hauled away, and possibly at a greater health risk to their employees... clothing... ...again, much of the product will be moldy or soiled and unsaleable after the store is rebuilt....also, possibly a health risk if the merchandise has been wet, humid or moldy....I doubt any store would really consider offering storm products for sale to the general public....too many potential liability problems.... electronics... ...many of the TV sets, stereo equipment also would be unsaleable after being subjected to weeks or months of storage in wet humid stores....possible airborn disease from humidity and mold, I certainly wouldn't want to buy any of the product.... ...bottom line, most retailers will declare a total loss on their merchandise anyway....the looting will actually save them time and money in the long run by not having to deal with damaged or destroyed items at a later date... ...one should be very wary of buying used cars in the near future at auction houses that have titles from those states.....the cars are usually shipped north to unsuspecting buyers and have mechanical and electrical problems that are difficult or impossible to correct... again, looting is wrong, but behind closed doors most large retailers quietly welcome the free removal of damaged merchandise...

...looting or robbing individuals homes, should be shot on site or 10 years in prison...but the courts would be filled with these cases, prisons would be overcrowded and rapists and murderers would need to be set free to house them....no win situation...public hangings would help solve many of todays problems, at least till someone steals the rope... Well, I don't know about the pros/cons of looting the retail stores, but stealing is stealing.I just returned from a week at my son's house (who is still deployed) after his house was broken into AGAIN. This is the second time in 15 months. What makes these people think they have the right to take something that does not belong to them......things that the owners have worked hard for? My son is deployed.......in dangerous situations.....and now he has to worry, again, about someone breaking into his home and stealing his belongings............it's just wrong.

I was in FL on the hurricane Andrew clean-up. Some armed home owners kept score on the garage door with a spray can of black paint. I remember one painted.....Owner 4, Looters 0. Meaning he had shot 4 looters I guess. Probably right about the stores not caring, but set foot in a private home, you should damn well get your head blown off! I will be leaving in a few weeks to start the clean-up down in LA or MS,this one is going to take a long time!

I agree with TUIB on the retail front and the items ... I sure owuldn't buy stuff that "survived" this event and was still on the shelf when I returned some 2.5 months later ... and Silverkat the same thing ... BUT, ANYONE that breaks in to get the items, causes damage OR goes into perosal residents SHOULD be shot and killed ... saves the prison system and our tax dollars.CJ, maybe son need to get a Brinks system that alerts the police silently upon break in ... that or move ... he shouldn't have to, but someone has his 'number' ... those punks should be shot too! <sigh>

" I sure wouldn't buy stuff that "survived" this event,,,,,,,,,,,,"I'll just bet that within 3 to 6 months,,,,,many of the cars that went through this disaster will end up going through auto wholesale auctions across the country,,,,and ending up on used car lots. Sold - AS IS

Interesting that you should say that. My son has spent much time in Saudi during his military career. He has told us about the lack of crime due to the punishments handed out. You steal....you get your hand cut off. Adultery, rape, they behead you. They have a place referred to as "chop, chop square". These punishments are done publicly and they encourage the public to watch.........a great deterrent.. He says the crime rate is lower there than here........... Ray.........my son is living in a rented home, so he is limited as to what he can do. The new door (the other one was totally destroyed) now has (6) 40" pieces of 2x4 screwed into the studs next to the door with 4" deck screws. I'm hoping that will at least slow them down. As soon as he gets back he plans on moving and buying his own home in a much better neighborhood with some kind of security system. The other problem there is the lack of involvement by the local sheriff's dept. The only thing that they have to say is that "it is Fayetteville's #1 problem". My response was "well, this is the second time in 15 months.........when the H...ll are you going to do something about it?" These thieves are sitting in the neighborhoods in their cars watching the homeowners come and go. They hit during the day when people aren't home. He has neighbors watching his home (one directly across the street and one next door who is in Special Ops also). This happened in a 1/2 hr time frame when one arrived home and the others left. They know that most of this neighborhood is military and that some are deployed, etc. It's disgusting.

"chop, chop, square,,,,,,now I like that concept and know it would work. Brings a new meaning to obeying the LAW, and brings down the number of lawsuits against finding fingers in your food at Wendy's. *****************************************************
Sno - your thinking like me now,,,,scary isn't it

I understand people now looting for water, food, Rx's, sleeping bags, and dry clothing,,,,,but stealing jewelry, guns, and electronic equipment [no power available] only shows the evil within them.

Dustis I agree with you 100% and if you will notice these low lifes use any excuse to steal, rob, burn.Where the hell are they going to plug in the TV's or keep them.A bigger problem they have is where are they going to get their welfare checks since they no longer have a address. These animals need to be loaded on a C130 and dumped out without a chute in middle of ocean, only the strong survive.
