I attended the Brickyard 400 and was enjoying the race until a young Muslim male started walking through the stands. You could tell he didn't belong there as he was wearing baggy dress pants, a button down shirt w/o a tie and a sports coat. He walked to the top of the section where we were sitting and the security guard asked him to show his ticket. The suspected terrorist acted like he didn't hear what the guard was saying but finally the guard insisted. When the ticket was shown it was for a seat on the other side of the track (my seats are in turn one) and the guard told him to leave. He started to walk away and the guard turned around and the terrorist sat down in the row in front of me about 8 or 9 seats away.
Everyone was keeping an eye on him. Some people left. The guy next to me commented that the suspected terrorist "seemed out of place" which he did. He was there about 30 minutes and never reacted to anything happening on the track but just looked at the overhead canopy and under the benches. He also had a dull dazed look on his face. I wanted him out of there so I went up to the guard and asked him why he didn't make the guy leave. He thought the guy had left and went down and escorted him out of the seating area. At the bottom of the steps they were met by other security guards who had been tipped off by the people who left. The suspected terrorist then ran into a bathroom and hid in a stall. When they got him out I was told by one of the people who had left earlier and was down by the bathroom that they found a large metal canister in the front pants pocket of the suspected terrorist.
I don't know what was in the canister but I suspect he was casing the place and their were probably others all around the track doing the same thing.
It was interesting how many people thanked me for taking action and getting the security guard to take action. The people who left came back to their seats and the security people came up and thank them also for reporting the incident. They like many of us want the Muslims out of this country and for good reason. Bush better get his act together and seal up this country! Oh, you won't see anything about this on the news as we don't want to offend them!
So if you are anywhere and see one of them take the appropriate action.

Here's the problem ... "civil rights" ... we seem to apply it to these foreigners as well as to us citizens! How things have changed since the bombing of Pearl Harbor when we 'gathered up' all the Japanese in the United States so that further devastation could not be managed by the "enemy" -- we didn't torture them (as far as I know), but at least kept close eye on them. But NOW ... when the statistics paint a pretty good picture of what these Muslim-type terrorists look like, do we screen them at airports and public venues like the Brickyard ... Nooooooo ... that would be discrimination and we can't have that now can we? How can Bush do what is needed when our own idiot people prevent us from doing what is needed!?! Sorry ... am pleased you pushed to keep that venue secure, but am surprised that "individual" didn't yell "harassment" and get protection instead of the boot that he deserved! Ok, done ... sorry.

We could ask Rush or Shawn about this problem and they would give us a 30 minute BS answer and slip in something that Ted Kennedy said 10 years ago!!

Nice work Dale!!! My opinion is that not only the middle easterners should be watched but anyone that looks out of the ordinary or suspicious. Doesn't matter what race he/she is.

As you mentioned...this person wasn't even paying attention to the race. Once again...Good Catch!!! It pays to be observant...not only when you're driving your cat.

I need to start out & apologize about the length & scattered thoughts & words in this post. I guess you can say that I am very opinionated on this subject. I had to cut it down quite a bit from the original post I was going to leave on Monday.

Goes to show you how great track security is. Security at Daytona was an absolute joke when we went in with a motor-home in turn four right after 9-11.

Dale,

Great Job Buddy!!! You did what you should have done & you probably saved hundreds of lives... Maybe not at that race, but possibly at a future event. I know you felt a weird uncertain feeling in the pit of your stomach. After being a close, firsthand witness to the cowardice events of 9-11 here in the city, I tend to notice things a lot more, everyone seems to keep an eye out for each other. I am not scared to go to work & in fact I was back at work on 9-13 dealing with the constant bomb threats & evacuations & smelling & tasting an odor that I have never experienced ever before (& hopefully never will smell again) & one I most definitely will ever forget.

I was always a very observant person, but in the past I was guilty as was everyone else & I would just walk past a bag or a weird looking package left by itself… Now you tend question everything, especially since I travel through Penn Station just about everyday & work in Madison Square Garden, which is built right on top of it.
At first you think it's stupid or you are embarrassed to say anything to someone about a suspicious package or people taking photos of things that just don't make sense. Other people will just walk away & may or may not say anything. Remember that he/she does not necessarily have to "look" the part. I am not a bigot or a racist, but the first time I reported a suspicious action, I was afraid that I would be perceived as one or maybe I was, for the first time, actually panicking. All I knew was that there were a ton of children on school field trips & I did not want to take what I saw for granted. I lost friends on that day in September of 2001 & those cowards F#&Ked with my Skyline, my City… After 9-11 the Police/Armed forces etc. proceeded with caution & a good helping of anger from 9-11, & they were right on it. It was like that for about two years after. A little before the bombing in England, there was a feeling of comfort again, & security was starting to take things for granted… Even though they always carried gas masks & patrolled with several Bomb-Sniffing Dogs, they are back to walking around with automatic weapons & full battle armor… Even the Local Sheriffs walk the different train stations with heavy vests & automatic weapons in jeans & a T-shirt… At the same time I guess it is a good deterrent, it is also very unsettling. I find it easier to report things & there have been two instances where an arrest was made.

Ray - you are right… The US did gather up everyone after Pearl Harbor & in fact, we did do that again… After 9-11 the Government immediately went down their terrorist suspect list & found who they could & put them down in Guantanamo Bay… I guess we were just a little too humane this time… There is the Civil Right Bullsh*t that officers have to be cautious of… In fact the ACLU is looking to sue NYC Homeland security for racial profiling on the trains… Well F#&K that… Maybe my fellow commuters & I don’t want to worry about having shrapnel with a cup of coffee.
Years ago, my Grandparents & my Great Grandparents came to this amazing country for a better life & for all the magic this great land has to offer no matter who you are or where you come from or what you have… They never came here to blow it up & destroy it. Many of the terrorists come here to the states & get caught up in the magic & realize the dream of many, instead of the despicable hatred of their “religion”. I don’t think we will ever get rid of this cancerous disease, but we can sure as hell fight it to shrink it. Great job Dale you took the appropriate action.

God Bless America
God Bless our Troops!
God Speed!

Nope, .I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics
intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed
to profile
certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old
women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret
agentsof the President's
security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of
Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave
Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone because of profiling.

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds
and other dunder-headed attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to
thwart
common sense, feel doubly ashamed of themselves - if they have any
such sense.

As the writer of the award winning story "Forrest Gump" so aptly put
it, "Stupid is as stupid does."

I appreciate you responses.

Everyone needs to be on their toes at all times and take the appropriate action when necessary. Plus put pressure on our elected officials to use whatever means are needed to protect us.

I'm in favor of profiling,,,,it isn't the 83 yr old grandmother with the 'walker' at the airport that we should be concerned with and having the TSA [Thousand Standing Around] searching. Its time to close off our borders and know 'who' is coming into this country. Its a shame that the Pres., the Congress, and even my Az. senator McCain don't understand this potential problem. I see the British are rounding up and deporting those that they don't want in their country,,,,,,they get it!!!

I guess it is because of our government's policy not to hurt their feelings. According to Teddy and the ACLU these are really nice peace loving people who wish us no harm!

I think that we will see a major attack again in this country by the members of the muslim faith at a large public event in the near future. Maybe in September. Just think what would have happened at the Brickyard with over 300,000+ people there!!

Sorry again about the long fragmented post, I think I cut out some important things out of my last post that might have confused people.

One thing I want to make clear is that I am not saying to focus in on all Arab-looking people or Muslims. They are not our enemies. Remember Muslim is a religion... Anyone can be a Muslim... Mohammad Ali is a Muslim & he may "Fly like a Butterfly & Sting Like a Bee", but I would never call him a Terrorist! Kat Stevens has converted to a Muslim; & he may be "Followed a Moon Shadow", but he won't be following me on a train with a bomb. It's the Muslim, Religious extremists (Gihad) that want to take everything & destroy everything we represent. The Catholic church does not condone the bombing of abortion clinics, yet there are Catholic Religious Extremists that blow them up... Can they be called terrorists too? Yes.
I am just saying that if it is a choice of approaching a suspicious looking person or worrying about a Civil rights suit & walking away, I say have the authorities approach them & search them, take him/her in for questioning. That is a part of what their job is for being a part of Homeland Security. If they run... Something is a foot. It is important that you report something that you see... Don't ever take it for granted.
I have friends from college who are from Syria, Palestine, Israel, etc. & they always say that "it is something you just grew up with... going to school living life... You see a bag by itself, you report it immediately, some people panic & there is an uneasy feeling. The suicide bombers are the toughest to spot, but you just have a gut feeling when someone is out of place & just doesn't feel right why they are there, but then it is too late." "...What makes it tougher here in the States is that there is such a huge diversity of nationalities that are here, & you never can be too sure" In the Middle-East, Syrians, Palestinians & Israelis do not really get along at all & they do not trust each other... My friends that I met in college got to know each other & we would all go out. No problems... If they were back in their Homelands... It probably would have been a different story, just because of their society & the way they were raised. I guess that also happens in small-minded communities here too for other reasons...

As far as not being plastered all over the news, "Nothing really happened..." Why report something in the news about someone being questioned or running from the police. This happened in a privately owned facility that thousand of spectators attend. A story like that would only insight panic & cause people not to attend the next event there or at other races. A PR nightmare... There are things that happen here in the city that don't get reported all the time & when they do, it is usually just locally, even in NY. If I remember correctly, there was something that happened here in I believe the Borough of Queens about a month or two before the England subway bombings. A FDNY Fire Marshall was doing an inspection of a bodega & when he went into a back room, he found 10 "Arab-looking" gentlemen sitting in a circle, having an intense meeting. When he entered the room two of the men immediately fled, one carrying a briefcase filled with documents, which several of them fell out while he ran off. Neither men were caught, but the documents were retrieved by the Fire Marshall. After the documents were further inspected, they were found to contain engineer drawings of elevations & entrance dimensions of NYC subway & train tunnels as well as sewer maps & other such underground facilities... You think they might of been planning something? NYC was also one of the contenders for the 2012 Olympics. Did anyone outside NY hear about this story on the news? I have already spoken to several people outside of NY about the incident & none of them ever heard the story anywhere. It was quickly out of the news after that night as well. I think the Government does not want to insight panic as well, otherwise we would all just sit at home with our doors boarded up, on the internet & let everything slip away. The feeling here after 9-11, although very somber & numb was that "I am going to work, to school etc. & live life as normal (all things considered) & not let them win..." You have to live life as normal, just be careful & look out for one another... Obviously, NYC & other major cities are a higher profile & are at higher risk, but any public event could potentially be a target. In England, they all said that they knew it was going to happen eventually, they just did not know when... It has happened, & it will happen...
Just don't be ignorant.

I'm in the gasoline distribution business and have a small fleet of gas transport trucks.

State and federal agencies frequently notify those of us with gas transport trucks that there has been intelligence discovered that terrorists are targeting gas transports to hijack and some terrorist cells are trying to place their people in driving positions.

Will I hire a 20 to 50 year old Muslim of Middle Eastern hertitage as a driver?
HELL NO!
Am I discriminating?
Some might say so, I just say I'm not an idiot!
