I just bought my about-to-be-ex-wife's 2001 Durango at the end of her lease.

It's a great car, but it porpoises like a, well, like a porpoise, and wallows like a walrus.

I crossed a couple of little 3" deep drainage swales in the street yesterday at 30 mph, and damn near put my head through the roof - I felt like one of those bobble-head dolls, and gave myself whiplash and conniptions!!!

Is there an easy handling fix for these things that doesn't cost a fortune????

I don't give a damn about ride quality, BTW - all my dental fillings are solid.

I've got a 2001 Durango and like you bought mine at the end of my lease cause I liked it so much. Some ride better than others, and I got no clue why. Even though mine has a better ride than some, it will throw you some if you like hit a bump (say 2 feet elevation rise over 15-20 feet) at a train track doing like 50. 30 mph and a 3" swale - no way - you got something wrong there. It is a truck afterall, but it's not THAT bad. I'd suggest taking it to your local tire/suspension place and asking them what's up with it - maybe your shocks are shot.

Rpowell, I thought of that, but had the local dealer (I trust them) go over the car before I bought it, just to see how badly the ex had beaten it up (a car-killer, that one...).

I had them pay particular attention to the suspension, just to be sure I wasn't buying an expensive repair job, and and they assured me it was OK...even slipped the service manager an extra $50, and told him to try to find a reason for me NOT to buy the car.

Anybody done any beefing up??? C'mon you guys, I know a bunch of you have Durangos - I can't be the only one that notices the bouncing ride, and POA members seem to like to tinker....????
