Remember where you were and what you were doing in the summer of 1965. I do and that is when I heard, "Like a Rolling Stone." for the first time.

I'm still a Dylan fan although the last time I saw him I couldn't understand anything he was singing...

The song "Positively 4th Street" is my all-time favorite song by Dylan.

"I wish for just one time you could walk in my shoes, so you'd know what a drag it is to see you..."

That was the summer before going into 8th grade. Spent part of the summer hiding from a kid three years older when he caught me "making out" (it was only kissing back then) with his little sister - one of my classmates.

The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, Herman's Hermits, Beach Boys were - all big at that time.

Was that really 40 years ago??

Married with two kids. Runnibg a car dealership. First of June I took off for Minn fishing. Locked the dealership at 5:00 PM on Sat evening. 65 Pontiac Ventura gassed, and packed up. Stopped once for gas in S. Minn. 650 miles later at 5:00 AM was sitting in the fishing camp on Lake Winnie waiting for them to wake up to check-in. Put my motor on a boat and went out and fished til dark. Came in and slept for 12 hours straight. "LIFE WAS GOOD"

I was 11.
When I wasn't working on my grandfather's farm I was playing football, basketball.
Dad bought a used boat that summer and I learned to water ski. We spent a lot of time camping, skiing and fishing.
We didn't have squat, but sure had fun.

I started kindergarten that year. Times were good. Grew up on a farm in Ohio. Funny thing is all our pictures from that period were in black and white, and so all my memories from back then are black and white too. Is that weird?

I got drafted on May 21, 1965 so I was playing army but not with my buddies.
I missed a lot of things that summer. Times changed tremendously while I was gone. Mini skirts, all the new cars, music, the sexual revolution, anti-war movement all seemed to start at that time. It was cultural shock for me when I got home.

summer of 1965....

....I was 13 years old and working 40-50 hours per week at Rays Drive Inn as a grill cook, I had been working there since the age of 10....I had a new Schwinn Stringray 5 spd ....I had yet to seriously discover girls but I was already saving for a car....I just worked and ran the streets with my buddies on our bikes .....I watched alot of TV, built model cars and had a giant HO scale Aurora racetrack in the basement that everyone in the neighborhood used 24 hours a day on the weekends...I was still listening to the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean...pretty laid back time of life for me....good times...

Larry - I kicked butt with my HO Falcon Futura with "slicks" for several months. My buddies & I laid claim to my Dad's pool table and built a combination car and train track on the same piece of plywood.

Was 1965 the year of the "rat finks" or were they already on their way out?

Chromer - I was thinking it was 6th grade instead of going into 8th but really wasn't sure.

Check out this webpage:
http://www.ratfinkring.net/

This guy gets $44.00 for a medium condition rat fink that sold for $.10 - this is worse than Larry Bell selling a Hemi Cuda - I had hundreds of these things!

I was born ... today as a matter of fact! But I'm sure I knew all the music of the day. Having a brother 18 years older than me helped in that category. I grew up listening to all the 45's he left in the house. Besides, he said I was a get way to attract the girls when I was a baby! So I'm sure I was cruising back in 65 already .. just not much memory of it!

18 years old, just graduated from High School, and met my current wife. Started at the University of Cincinnati in the fall. WOW .... 40 years ago, hard to believe.
