...being somewhat lazy, and always being the type to look for easy ways to make a $$$...I let my interest in video games steer me towards a new business venture in 1980....I started buying and placing video games over several counties in Indiana....I had a large variety of games but Pac Man blew them all out of the water when it hit the market....I installed the games and serviced them(very easy)....the biggest challenge was keeping the money boxes cleaned out so the quarter slots didn't get jammed up with money....in the beginning each machine usually took in about $1000. per week, which I split 50/50 with the retailer.....Pac Mac hit the road at about $1500 to $2000 per week and stayed there for about a year....I had quite a few machines and was the only guy around with the new Pac Man games for a long while....they were very hard to buy....I still have one of the 'uprights' in my family room, and I still play it occasionally....YOU NEVER BEAT PAC MAN

You don't happen to have 1 left somewhere in the barn, now do ya larry ??

ME as 80's-holic fondly remember PacMan - I don't know how much $$ I spent at the local Arcade on Pac Man, Space Invaders etc...........INSANE !!

Sure would be nice if you had one of those machines somewhere covered in the barn behind all your other 'toys'

Ah Inky, Blinky,Pinky and Clyde and the money I spent to wacka wacka wacka them! The P-man will be included in Guiness World Records sometime this year as the #1 arcade game of all time. Later this summer Namco will release Pac-Mania, the 3D sequel. ru Iwatani, creator of the classic game Galaxian thought of it while staring at a pizza with one missing slice. Puck Man, derived from the Japanese phrase "paku-paku (meaning to open and close one's mouth) was the games original title. Puck was changed to 'Pac' to avoid unfortunate alterations.
The all time record holder is Billy Mitchell from Hollywood FL. In July 1999 he played a perfect game (took six hours) He cleared all 256 levels, eating every single bonus prize and every possible ghost and racked up 3,333,360 points. Jeff

...I do have the one in my family room, but it ain't for sale ..they are still available from time to time if you keep an eye open....the real problem was during the later eighties they were converted to other video games.....machines with a joy stick were easily converted and PAC MAN was a prime target....

...I had machines of just about every type made from 1980 till about 1984....sold them all and spent the $$$ on more vintage MOPARS....I even had a game room for a couple of years.....kept about 20 games in there plus a couple of pool tables and pinballs....they were really good money makers for several years then kinda cooled off when home arcades started becoming more popular and less expensive....

Trivia Question:

Before Pac Man was released,,,,,it had another original name. What was it? No clues for this one.

Pac-Man was originally released by Namco in Japan under the name 'Puck-Man' in 1980. The name comes from paku-paku - a Japanese term used to describe the sound of eating. It does not mean to eat as some authorities claim. The game was distributed in the US under the familiar name by Midway the same year.

Thanks Larry for the trip down memory lane. I loved Pac-Man and dumped way too many quarters in the slot. Sure would love to have one; we see Ms Pac Man games for sale regularly. I now understand why.

I'm just as guilty as AC. I see this often --not reading all the posts in a thread.
