Woman indicted in six-pack theft charge

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Martinsburg woman was indicted on a charge of felony shoplifting Thursday in connection with a six-pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade stolen from a grocery store nearly a year ago.

Teresa L. Beavers, 35, of 616 Second St., also was indicted on a charge of retaliation against a witness.

According to a copy of the indictment, the six-pack was stolen from Weis grocery store in June 2004. Beavers previously had been convicted in Martinsburg Municipal Court on Oct. 1, 2001, and Aug. 21, 2002, of shoplifting, the indictment states. The six-pack was priced at $6.35.

A felony third-offense shoplifting charge can be filed regardless of the value of the item alleged to have been stolen. Conviction of the charge carries a sentence of one to 10 years in prison.

Beavers was one of several people indicted Thursday by the grand jury.

We are talking some big time crime here:
Other indictments included:

1. Paul K. Hardy, 40, of 46 Wilson St., Martinsburg, was indicted on one count of armed robbery, two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of wanton endangerment with a firearm and three counts of destruction of property, all stemming from an incident on Dec. 31, 2004.
Hardy is charged with breaking into an older couple's home on Winchester Avenue, holding them at gunpoint and making them play the piano, records state.
The robber asked one of the victims to play the piano and sang along. He also asked the couple whether they wanted to order pizza, police have said.
Moments later, while "playing with the gun," the robber shot himself once in the left leg, allowing one of the victims to call for help, police said.

2. John C. Galloway, 22, of 1075 Hyslip Ford Road, Bunker Hill, W.Va., was indicted on two counts of armed robbery, with both robberies occurring at the same store.
Stateline Market, also known as Cunningham's Market, was robbed in April 2004, when $1,049 was taken, and again in December 2004, when $1,480 was taken, the indictment states.
Galloway also was indicted on one count of cultivation of marijuana.

3. Crystal Maphis, 20, of 125 Boarman Place, Martinsburg, was indicted on one count of unlawful wounding, stemming from a stabbing to the arm involving Michael Maphis. The stabbing happened in July 2003.

4. Maurice Washington, 54, of no fixed address, was indicted on one count of malicious wounding. He is charged with stabbing James Ziemann in the neck in January because Ziemann was teasing him about a sandwich, claiming he had defecated in it , court records state.

Some serious crime goes on in Martinsburg,,,,,,
