I own a 2002 Ford Taurus, and after the first 3000 miles my transmission slipped when making a right turn. I would make a slow rolling turn and when I put my foot on the accelerator the engine would rev, the car would not move, and then it would slip into gear and the tires would squeal.

Ford decided to change the cars computer program which eliminated the problem and caused another problem.

Now, when I came to a slow stop, the transmission would slam into gear. It felt like I was rear ended. This only occurred occasionally, and after taking it back to the Ford dealer several times they were able to duplicate the problem.

Ford decided I needed a new transmission. At 21,000 miles they put a brand new transmission in at no cost to me. The car was road tested for 19 miles and Ford said everything was fine.

I drove the car home, and no sooner did I make a slow moving right turn the transmission slipped, the engine revved, slipped into gear and the tires squealed.

Back to the dealer the car went and the service manager told me the car has to get use to my driving before the transmission would work properly. I never heard of this, so I drove the car for about 150 miles.

Yesterday the car went back to the Ford dealer and after having it all day, they said there was no problem with the transmission.

I then pick up my wife, made a slow moving right turn and once again the transmission slipped, the engine revved, and the transmission slipped into gear and the tires squealed.

My question is what I do now. I don't believe they needed to put a new transmission in. There is a problem with the transmission and Ford says it works perfectly. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Howard

PS. Just for your information, Ford will replace wheels they damage. I had four new tires put on, and when I looked at the wheels I noticed the rear wheels were both chipped. After the service manger accused me of bring them in that way, and being very nasty to me, he reluctantly replaced both rear rims. I have to say, the service manger was a real jerk. He did everything a service manger should not do to a customer, and convinced me never to buy a Ford again, let alone buy a car form his dealership..

I had a transmission put in my Wife's car under warranty. The didn't see the problem until I took the tech for a ride and pointed the problem out.

I remembered reading something very similar on the Ford Escape bulletin board:

I'm not sure if this is too much of an issue w/ many people. My 05 CD4E has slipped or thudded into gear after a tighter than normal right turn. I'm thinking that maybe it gets starved for tranny oil when the fluid rushed to the left of the vehicle during the turn.

Does anyone else notice this?

The fix seemed to be adding fluid. See: http://www.escape-central.com/1forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18705

It's possible that you may need a new Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
This is a common sensor to fail on Taurus'

Howard, how did you do making right turns on your driver's test? lol
Sounds like you need to switch dealerships. Hope they figure it out for you.

Howard - My '04 Ford Ranger work truck has had one transmission replaced at 20,000. At 40,000 miles,,,the tranny once again has the previous symptoms of slipping at times, and searching for which gear it wants [5 speed automatic]. Ford has now issued a recall on Ranger trucks with automatic trannys,,,,,,seems they had the 'wrong' transmission fluid installed at the factory. Doubt if this is related to a Taurus,,,,but you never know.

Good luck,,,,be a pit bull and stay in their face until you are satisfied. Keep taking it back and keep records,,,,there is always the Lemon Law to fall back on.
