Today we travel to Woonsocket, RI,,,,mainly because I never pick on Rhode Island very much,,lol.
City man charged with offering steak for sex
A city man who didn’t have any money tried to cook up a deal with an undercover policewoman he thought was a prostitute, police say.
Instead of giving the woman cash for sex, Wayne Glaude allegedly invited her back to his apartment to share a couple of steaks.
"He says he wants sex and he doesn’t have any cash on him, but he does have a couple of nice T-bones at home," said Detective Capt. Luke Gallant, spokesman for the Woonsocket police department. "He said he’d pay her $35, but he couldn’t get it until tomorrow."
Glaude, 22, of 35 Water St., was arrested on one count of soliciting from a motor vehicle on Thursday night. Glaude, who works in a meat-distribution warehouse, was released on personal recognizance following a hearing in District Court on Friday. Another hearing was set for May 9.
Gallant said the police have conducted numerous stings in attempts to curb street prostitution, but no one has ever offered to feed a policewoman before.
"I can honestly say, it’s the first time," he said.
Glaude was the only "john" picked up in the area of High and Arnold streets Thursday night in what Gallant described as a "low-key" and "exploratory" attempt to find out who is doing business in the city’s notorious trade in illicit sex.
In the wake of the arrest of a serial killer who was preying on city prostitutes last summer, Gallant said police are doing everything they can to become pro-active in the war on street crime. That means finding out as much as possible about who is active in criminal circles, in case something happens later.
It isn’t unusual for perpetrators of sex crimes to display a "quirk" in their approach that can be a clue to their identity, he said.
"Historically, when you have reports of rapes, assaults or robberies and you talk to the victim she’ll give you some weird quirk about the guy," said Gallant. "We can’t protect people from themselves but we can focus on developing a database of who is out there and what they’re doing."
Accused serial killer Jeffrey S. Mailhot, 34, is awaiting trial at the Adult Correctional Institutions, Cranston, on three counts of first-degree murder. Police say he raped and dismembered three prostitutes in his Cato Street apartment between February 2003 and July 2004.
Mailhot was a well-known face among the denizens of the city’s nightlife, but he seemed like such a low-profile character that he managed to avoid suspicion until two other women told police he tried to strangle them.
As the warm weather approaches, Gallant said, police will be "very aggressive" in organizing stings to capture johns and deter others from hiring prostitutes. Gallant said police will be employing some "new strategies" designed to confuse johns about who is a prostitute and who is a police officer posing as one.
