We have been in the house for 10 years and I never got around to sealing the garage floor. This past week I had it epoxy coated and think it looks fairly well. I didn't get before pictures as i wanted but it was covered with oil spots. We didn't decide on a color and he was to come over to check a week or so before starting but he didn't. I might have went with gray anyway, but was thinking white or cobalt blue. He did it in 3 days starting with shot blasting the floor, sealing then 2 coats of color and one coat of clear. We had a light 50% white, 30% blue and 10% red fleck put on top of the 2nd color coat. (these are the colors of the cars that will be parked on it) NO YELLOW, I thought it might not look right with some yellow added. I looked at U COAT IT and it actually would have cost me more to buy their product and do it myself, PLUS I found out the guy lives on the next street over and has had many nice cars and currently a `73 Mach1 what do you think.

Very nice ... have had epoxy finish at former house and did it again here in 'new' garage and 37 year old garage with cracks and oil marks. IF done 'right' by a reputable company (and believe me, if you think cheap and go the Sears or similar garage floor paint route, you WILL regret it) you can NOT see any of the cracks or spots in the 'old' garage, and more aggregate for anti-slip there (used during the winter -- don't want anyone breaking a neck) and less aggregate in the the 'new' garage. You will be happy you went with a gray color. I did creme in my former house to match the house trim and you would get dark area from tires that were parked hot ... I do not get that with this color -- or maybe it is just a better product still. Don't know. Looks very nice though ... congrats.

Looks real nice. The main thing on getting good paint is the rubber tires sitting on the paint can pick the paint up after being parked for a period of time. It has something to do with a chemical reaction between the rubber and the paint. Although you can probably wash off the rubber marks, our suggestion is to put carpet where the cars will be parked. Worked for us - we have a yellow paint but had some discoloration from the tires, so that's the reason for the carpet, now no problem. This message has been edited by pumpkin on 04-12-2005 at 02:53 PM

Pumpkin ... you would be correct IF one used the 'cheaper' approach ... but if done well and right with epoxy, my cars 'sit' in the same spot for months on end ... and even when coming in 'hot' and parking, have never had a 'lift' or softening problem. And with these garages, no longer a 'dark spot' problem from the heat transfer of the tires to the previously creme-colored floor.Davidn ... in my case the more you had done, the less per square foot ... and they did the "gas rails" those verticle areas along the perimeter of the garage and any/all step that were concrete. The company charged me roughly $2.60 per square foot. Company name Technikote. Can't speak highly enough about their product and the results. Makes ANY garage look 1,000 times better!! Clean up is a breeze with a bucket of water and a mop too!

I think the specks break it up just enough. It really looks great and you were lucky to find a guy that does good work.

excellent. That is one nice floor Larry. Can you give me a ballpark cost per square foot. I know it will vary by location. At my house they have to include hotel rooms we are so far out.

The freezer is on the back porch with the Goldwing under a 10x10 canopy, the Prowler & trailer and Imperial is in Mom's garage (her van and nephews cars are outside ... hehehe) the Dart is at the body shop for touch up on left fender (good news the fender does not need cut due to tire clearence) The Caddy is over at friends house (been there all winter too big to fit in mom's garage with van in there) both my Broncos, dodge truck and Sue's van are outside. MY 24' CAR HAULER IS FULL!!!!!!!!!!!!
He said to wait until Tueday to start putting things back on it. I think I will wait a few more days. It is an EPOXY not paint. He gave me a 10 year garranty. The prep included shot blast (the only way to prep, U COAT states acid wash is enough) I thought about not doing the flake, but it helps hid defects in the concrete. He was doing a home show special and it cost me about $2.00 per sq. ft. I have about 950 sq. ft. He did the exposed block also from the floor up to the drywall. U coat it for the size floor I have would have cost about $1,000 for material, plus the cost to rent a shot blaster (Mike stated the only one in Indy rents for $650 a weekend. seems kind of HIGH) plus I would have had to done all the work, bought the silicon sand and chemicals and application supplies. He can do checkerboard patterns (about $5 sq. ft.) and put logos in the floor for additional cost. I will take some pictures once the cars get back into the garage. I wish I had enough room to put a lift in to park ONE MORE CAR IN THERE.....LOL He is going to do a checkerboard in my hauler once I get it cleaned out and he has time. He has not done one before and gets ask all the time about it. It will be a test to see how well it holds up.

You might be an Indiana Redneck if.......Your freezer and motorcycle are stored on the back porch. Just joking. We know there are no rednecks in Indiana. LOL

Sue wanted me to leave it in the driveway........I really thought about the front porch so it would be covered but don't want to start a TREND in the neighborhood
