Horse Patootie...I tell ya'...Horse Patootie! (could be true as Ed usually says) But I should be dead; I shouldda died YEAR N YEARS AGO ifn this was true--or does it take 150 years to work it's magic. I, for one, will continue to heat plastic wrapped foods, plastic containers & TV dinners in the microwave and dare the inevitable...I tell ya'...dare it...(as AC would probably say) to kill me!

its hard to make a generalization when talking about plastic... they are so different in their composition....

PVC is quite toxic both in its raw state and especially if its burned...
Polyethylene on the other hand is an entirely different substance that is very inert in its raw state and fairly harmless when burned and is actually self dampening.

the most recent source for the de-bunking argument is 3 years old , and one is 15 years old.... things change quickly .. who knows what the real facts are.

I have to say, even before this article .. i wondered if anything comes off of a heated plastic from the microwave process....We have come along way since we soldered tin cans together with lead...

John Franklin found out about that one.

For those with questions all it takes is a quick search at John Hopkins University site to answer the question.

Thanks Kat hunter for these...

Great articles and up to date information....basically heating has some risks..
burning definitely risky...
but freezing or unheated containers no prob...

The hormone issue definitely explains Boy George and Michael Jackson !!

WELL IN MY OPINION CANCER IS IN YOU WHEN YOU ARE BORN...MAYBE, GRANTED SOME ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS WILL TRIGGER IT, BUT THINK ABOUT IT.....A 2YR OLD WITH CANCER....HE DIDNT HAVE A CHANCE TO DRINK MUCH OUT OF A BOTTLE OF WATER FROZEN IN THE FRIDGE, PERIOD!!!!! THIS CRAP FLOATS AROUND, ONE DAY THIS IS BAD NEXT YEAR IT IS GOOD, GOOD EXAMPLE IS LINDA McARTNEY, A VEGATARIAN FOR WHAT I KNOW WAS HER WHOLE LIFE (died of cancer) JUST ONE MANY OTHERS.....SEEN NON SMOKERS (who didnt hang in bars) DIE OF LUNG CANCER...IF YOU GOT IT SORRY BUT YOU GOT IT, WE ALL JUST HOPE IT DOESNT APPEAR IN US DURING OUR LIFE, IT IS A HIT AND MISS THING..........feel better now.........JUST GOT MY PROWLER OUT OF STORAGE!!!!!!!

My brother is a radiation oncologist in Camarillo, CA and from my conversations with him it seems some people are predisposed at birth to be more vulnerable to cancer than other people. That does mean they have death sentence, just more susceptible to uncontrolled cell growth.

When you factor in the impact of the environment (air pollution, asbestos, second hand smoke, etc) and one's lifestyle choices (tobacco, cooking with plastic, fatty foods etc.), some people are just more vulnerable than others to contract some form of cancer.

Thanks Jim! Good info. I always take the plastic wrap off my plate before I nuke it. I try and cover it with a moist paper towel to prevent food splatter while it is cooking.
The paper towel method doesn't work very well when I'm reheating my spaghetti that has a 3" layer of Velveeta cheese on top.

Several years ago I found that saranwrap if heated for 10 minutes or more in the microwave became very soft and could then be rolled into a ball and chewed like warm bubble gum. If sugar was added before heating the taste was much like RedMan, of course you should spit the juice like chewing tobacco and not swallow it.
I'm sure some health nut will say that this is also bad for you!

My father found in the 70's that dogs and cats eating & drinking from certain non-UV stabilized plastic bowls were suffering Neurological damage. The plastic was deteriorating and giving off small amounts of arsenic and tri-hexcal phenol. This resulted in the FDA issuing a warning not to reuse any plastic food packaging.
