I was walkin’ our dog, Echo, around the big block…(.6 mi) as I do 2 or 3 times a day--every day--and when I got near Jim’s house….[an 80-yr-old friend up the street] the couple who live across the street from him asked if I’d heard about Jim? I said, "No! What about Jim?" They said his lil doggie 'Princess' was hit 2 days ago—and killed—by an older man who lives just 3 doors left of us.

Altho' "I" expected it to happen eventually cuz Jim never put her on a leash…and she’d gone deaf & almost blind...it's still too bad...as she was ALL he had--now! Because he lost his wife to breast cancer 18-mos ago.

Not much one can say at a time like this…and not much keepin' old Jim amongst the living anymore ...

That's too bad.
Sometimes things like that can't be avoided though. Maybe another dog will come his way, or the guy that hit her will get him a new one. Sounds like the dogs owner definately needs some kind of companionship.

Go to the pound and buy him a mutt. They are the best dogs anyway.

I agree Ed. I've had a couple pure breeds in the past and compared to pure breeds the mutts are stronger and just all around better animals(JMO). I travel too much to have a dog right now, but I'd love to have one again someday...

TY-K, back up plan. Sandy is gone for a week. Want a free cat, I will pay shipping, also. Don't say anything about it, though.

Ha! Ha! Very funny, Ed...FREE what would that be?

Actually the pound-idea isn't a bad one...I would never just 'spring' another dog on him, but maybe I could coax him to go to the pound--it's the thought that counts!

i lost my Yellow Lab a year ago... she was 10 and had cancer.... she was my best friend....
It was the most difficult thing i've been through other than my fathers death....I said I wouldn't get another one because it was so painfull when their time comes....
I lasted 6 months.... then saw an ad in the local store.....

Now I have little Bamy... my new best friend and i feel good again...unconditional love... ain't it great !

take Jim to the pound to get him a new friend....it will bring some joy to the old fella and give an chance at life for one of our furry pals ....

Does anyone allow their pets to ride in their Prowler?

hey Dreamcast,

Bamy goes everywhere with us... she likes the Prowler and sleeps on my lap or looks out the window by laying between the headrest and my neck....she is very small, weighs only 4 lbs....she is my navigator.

If I took the Prowler out without JAC (Jack Russell) I'm afraid that he would do something very nasty when I wasn't looking to the car or the carpet.
We always cruise together,(as long as I buy the burgers),plus he's a great chick magnet and when you combine him in the Prowler--How can I loose?
Hope my wife doesn't see this!

The American Kennel Club's rules for breeding Dogs is pathetic, they completely allow inbreeding.....this is why some people associate schizophrenic behavior as a purebred thing, when it is actually a gene thing. Canada is not much better. In Europe inbreeding is completely banned. If you buying a purebred look for European bloodlines...you won't be disappointed.

yes, we're very tempted to let our Corgi ride in the kat..but he sheds big time! With black interiou..we're very nervous about his golden fur leaving their prints everywhere..

definitely agree that kat + dog is a 'babe'-magnet
