Well, looks like you Montanans won't be able to drink and drive anymore. They just passed a ban on open alcohol containers in motor vehicles. Takes affect on October 1st. Montana has the highest rate of alcohol related accidents. If the bill didn't pass they would lose $5,000,000 of federal highway funding per year. Its still OK in Mississippi, but most cities and counties have their own ban on it. I had no idea this was legal anywhere.

When we lived in the Kansas City area around the early seventies it was legal to have an open container in your car. You could drink but not be drunk. Pretty weird. Don't know if that's still the law or not in that area.

From what the article said its only legal in the state of Mississippi, but most cities and counties have laws against it.

Nova Scotia has had a "Open Liquor Law" for at least 35 years.. it was a $35 fine but never enforced.... they just made you dump it out on the roadside...a couple years ago they raised all the Drinking crime fines..... it will now cost you $350 an interesting point is that they can charge you if you have unopened liquor within reach of the driver a guy just got convicted because he had an unopened 6 pack of beer behind the seat of his truck.

Wow! I'm shocked.......who would have thought that drinking and driving would be legal anywhere.....not that it stops people from doing it anyway!

My Grandpa always said "Don't drink and drive...You could hit a bump and spill it."

I know it was legal here awhile back. You just couldn't be drunk. Now you just can't get caught. This message has been edited by 01Prowler on 04-09-2005 at 01:26 PM

I think there were times that I didn't realize that I was driving while my drink was open........------------------ BackinBlack

I know in Florida you were allowed to have open container (drink & drive) until something like 1985. Of course you couldn't be drunk, and the BOA was .10% then. Now it's .08 and of course no open container.
