Today, I was making the telephone rounds, calling local Prowler owners. The intent was to let them know about the trailer we have for sale. One gentlemen told me their 2001 Yellow Kat has changed hands. When I asked him if he could put me in touch with the new owner, he responded "He's not home now, but I'll have him call you later." He had given this 4,000 mile Kat to his son for the son's 16th birthday! Title & all! I asked if he was taking applications for an additional "son"? I will work on the son (like I did for the father) to get him to join POA, but my gut instinct is that he will be too busy".......If there is a messsage here,..........than I can't be the only one who doesn't get it.

times have changed Ed... kids get Prowlers now instead of spankings.... a far cry from when we were young.... there were 24 of us and we lived in a box at the dump... our neighbors lived in a bag in a septic tank.... and you tell kids that today... And they don't believe you !!!!

Ed, I share your consternation on this subject. In High School there was a kid in my class that had everything handed to him. New motorcycle-wrecked it,new VW-wrecked it,new Z28-totaled it. Sr year he was given a plane-crashed it and then for graduation he was given a new house. I heard a couple of years ago he was in jail for murder. I guess there was some value missing there. It's not to say that all would react this way, I'm just grateful that I had to buy every car, boat and motorcycle that I've ever owned. There is an appreciation that comes with that. Jeff

Meijer stores put out a flyer for a one day sale for tomorrow (Saturday). There is a picture of a Purple Prowler being washed on the back page.

IT WILL BE 7 YEARS OLD AND HAVE A 100,000 MILES.THEN IF I GET A $3,000,000 LIFE INSURANCE POLICY ON EACH KID I SHOULD BE ABLE TO RETIRE IN STYLE. ------------------

There's something to this point of view, I think(?).Especially if each child knows about it in advance & is old enough to comprehend it......................

The way it worked with each of our three kids was that at sixteen if they had a job THEY could buy a car and we would finance it.

I guess some people are raised differently. In 1999 I got my first Prowler at age 20. I had it for 18 months, only putting 1,200 miles on it. Later I traded it for an 2001 vette. Now I have a 2001 prowler that I bought and I plan to put 2,000 miles a year on it. I am sure this one will never be sold. As for appreciating cars and taking care of them, I can probably say mine is kept better than most. But I am pretty anal. As for other toys growing up I have had about every type of gasoline toy since the age of five. I guess I am just lucky because my dad loves toys and he enjoys getting out doing things. I can honestly say that growing up my parents always taught me to be appreciative of what I got and to take them.

Ed: When I sold my red Vette, the guy who bought it was buying it for his daughter's 16th birthday as a present to her. Couldn't believe that either and often wondered if she made it to her 17th with that much power as her first car. T

My point, Tami. Still, no matter how you cut it, I guess I'm jealous. I waited until I was 54...........

Wow. That's amazing - to give a 16 yo a Prowler. We did get our oldest son (16 almost 17) a car, but his ride is a 70 a Camero with an in line 6 and a 2-speed (not enough power to get in too much trouble). Runs but needs some work. He and hubby are currently doing some body work to it. One of the other kids (13) got his dad to buy him a 59 Chevy truck -- but it needs lots of work. He'll be lucky if its driveable by the time he gets his permit. I admit I did let my son drive my Prowler once. But he complained he couldn't see too well and hasn't seriously asked to drive it again. I keep telling my kids I trying to lower their expectations to keep them from getting spoiled. <g> Janet

From my perspective (not that that means much), you guys did it right. Can we say sweat equaty? Raise them to be a gearhead by involving them young......... My congratulations to a job well done !

Would a 2-speed be half as slow or half as fast as a 3 or 4-speed?
