It seems that all legal challenges are going to fail for Terri Schiavo's parents. Let her soon go in peace!Michael Schiavo wants her body cremated after she expires. Terri's parents want her body for a regular ground burial. Again,,,I ask for your input on this difficult situation. A. Michael Schiavo has the right to make the call for cremation. B. Terri Schiavo's parents have the right to bury their daughter as they see fit. This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 03-25-2005 at 10:04 PM

...it is a real pity they can't agree on any of this.......I would still accept his choice, although I think he should strongly consider their wishes....it could help mend a lot of broken hearts...

Having just been through burying Bob's brother, the spouse has the legal right to make the decision. However, under the circumstances of this case, I would hope that Michael would have enough decency and compassion to at least let her parents bury her as they see fit. Did she state she wanted cremation?

"Did she state she wanted cremation?"I don't believe it has been stated that she preferred cremation. That is what Michael says he prefers for her. I hope he changes his mind on this matter and turns that decision over to the Schindlers.

I agree with you guys. Even though he MAY have the legal right, he should take the high road and honor the parents' wishes. It appears he is going to get his wish to let her die, the least he should do is let them decide as to what to do with her remains.

I am not saying this is what happened, but IF he induced the coma with insuling, he wants her dead, the sooner the better. He wants cremation so that there will be no exhumation in the future. People are getting convicted with DNA evidence and other new scientific tests that were not available even 5 or 10 years ago. Get rid of the evidence for once and for all. He wants her dead so she cannot come back and testify due to a miracle or whatever. Again, I am not saying this is what happened. I have no idea.

I believe that it is the husband's choice. Once you depart this earth what use is the old shell? I for one, and my spouse, are going to be cremated. It is more economical and takes up less space than traditional 'in the ground' burial procedures.

Well get this, Carol is going to have me cremated. Then she plans on putting my ashes in an hour glass. Claiming that I never worked while I was alive, she'll make sure I do when dead. And to think I choose to sleep with this woman?

Decency and Michael Schiavo don't belong in the same sentence. Now that he got what he wanted why not give the family some peace. Why expect him to do the right thing now after not doing it the past 19 years!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but, I have been led to believe that those of the Jewish faith not only are buried standing up (vertical), but also face a certain direction (East?). So, if this is true, sorry Alley Cat, already been done, can't be patented (prior art rule)!

quincy - I believe you are wrong. While not being Jewish myself,,,I've seen a Jewish funeral,,,horizontal. Facing East? What if all the plots run north-south? Maybe you have that confused with the Masonic Lodge/Shiners members, who all have been to the East?

I don't disagree with that. I plan on being cremated and I have my own reasons for not wanting to be buried. However, many people prefer burial so that they can visit the grave of their loved one.....for remembrance, for comfort...... I just think that after all that has transpired, if they couldn't save their daughter as they wanted, they should at least be able to visit her grave if that's what they need. It's all about compassion, but obviously he has none. I've also heard stories about him and his treatment of her. My son said he read that he used to beat her and that her problem did not stem from an "eating-disorder" related issue. He certainly does seem to want to erase her existence totally, does it?

CJ, Allow me to quote a line of Sir Alec Guiness (Commandore Bigalow) from the movie "Raise the Titanic" that has always stayed with me........... "We all sleep in a single bed, eventually." Like the rest of us, her husband will reside in a "single bed". but based on what I've read, I highly doubt he will get much "sleep."

Does this somehow involve door molding?
