I like this thing and would probably buy one if there wasn't price gouging and service was available. It's supposed to be a part of DC. How come they dont enter it into the US market? I saw a crash test with a big Benz, left front to left front, and it did pretty good.
You guys like this car? Looks like a lot of fun and makes sense with gas on the rise. http://www.thesmart.co.uk/

I think it looks great and would do well here, especially in the cities.

The sports model looks pretty good, but the price needs to come down for young urban commuters to really embrace it (jmo). The base model sports car is nearly $23,000.

We drove one in the US about three years ago. It was here for some sort of demonstration at micro car show. Load's of fun; yes, I Liked it a lot.

These little cars really look neat. I can see driving around here in our community of 15,000 people. Then I think about the guy jumping in one and getting on I-70. Picture in your mind what would happen to this vehicle and occupant mixed up with a semi or SUV at 80 MPH. Not a pretty thought.

No worse then a motorcycle. They work in Europe with their agressive driving style.

Saw tons of'em in Germany last fall. Yes they're a division of DC, but Mercedes has a full line of A series MB's that are also not sold over here. Little cars (think Pontiac Vibe) with several engines to choose from. Guess they're not 'prestigious' enough for the US market... but I'd bet they could sell a ton of'em over here.

Sorry to say but I hate this "thing" - seen it driving around in Germany, it's like a turd on wheels - like the old Fiat Cinquecento (500) of years past - YUCK !

Sure, great gas mileage and maybe nice if you have to constantly 'hunt' for parking spaces in a city but I'd never buy one !

AP--thanks for the offer. Man, that's a cool little ride. I'll wait until they become available in the eastern US with dealer service. It might take some doing to get a European model federalized for use on this side of the pond. Doing research, I see a lot of them for sale have racked up some high miles....over 70K and still look good. thanks
AL

that's true Dustis, but you need to get it over here and then change it to left hand drive and then get it federalized. Not worth it in the long run.I know your yanking my chain, but I'll get one when they're available.

Hey Butch,
no really, NO yanking your chain - the picture Gery posted is an Austrian vehicle, NOT a right-steerer (U.K.vehicle) - in 'central' Europe they are all left steerers, just like here in the U.S. !

The SMART's I've seen in Germany all had "regular" steering - you've been to the U.K. link - there should be an "original" website for the Daimler Chrysler german site !

No yanking no chain - each to his own liking, right !!

Bob brought home one of these once to drive. It was different! He says it has a start sequence that is very regimented. We had a 6-speed, clutchless, sequential manual transmission model. It was an early European spec fortwo. The car would run about 100 kilometers flat out in sixth gear. I know he wasn't comfortable merging onto the freeway with that semi bearing down on him!
