I don't know how the brackets align, but the four best teams I've seen this year are Illinois, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Kentucky. Next level- Kansas, Boston College, Duke, Syracuse, Arizona, Connecticut. But what do I know. Last year I didn't pick Georgia Tech to make it out of the Sweet 16 and they made it to the championship game. It's whomever stays healthy, but more importantly - who gets hot. ------------------

Randy, were you on the committee? You did pretty well with what you picked except Washington snuck in on you.

Ed- Just lucky, but the tops seeds are fairly obvious except for Washington. The combination of them beating Arizona in the Pac 10 Tourney and Wake losing (Chris Paul out due to suspension for sucker punching Julius Hodge in the privates) in the quarters to a hot NC State probably sealed that 1st seed. I still think Wake is the better team, but time will tell and the committe couldn't give three 1 seeds to ACC teams. Duke's gut check during the ACC Tourney and the losses by Kansas and Oklahoma in the Big 12 as well as Kentucky's loss to Fl in the SEC moved the Devils from a 2nd/3rd to a 1st. Marty- My leaving the Cards out of the second group was an omission due to a senior moment. I definitely think they they are a Sweet 16 club and probably in the Great 8. So many good clubs out there this year. blackcat- Yeah, Paul Hewitt sure seems to get 'da Wreck going this time of year. I really wonder who will be the sleeper that will get in the Final 4 this year like GA Tech did last year? Who will get hot? Seems to be at least one every year.

Kentucky has played poorly in 3 of their last 4 games, including 2 losses to Florida and the OT win over LSU... I don't look for them to struggle against EKU (and ex Wildcat now EKU coach Travis Ford), and the rest of the Austin bracket doesn't scare me, but if they come out flat, like they have lately, they won't go very far...

jmcant 1 -Yeah, UK can be erractic with their youth, but if Tubby can get some chemistry with that unreal young talent they could go deep. They should be awesome over the next couple of years. I know you guys loved it when Carolina lost to Ga Tech! UNC almost got caught by Clemson in the quarterfinals.

The big story here is that IF UC wins Thursday, they will play UK, which is only 90 minutes away. UK refuses to play UC during the season, because they do not see it as a plus for UK. I hope UC wins Thursday but they will get killed by UK. UC is inconsistent. I was hoping for a lot more help on my picks. lol

Ed-Good luck to UC. Huggins has done a good job keeping Eric Hicks straight after Hick's temper tantrum his freshman year. As we have talked before that guy has talent, but all the schools in this area were scared of his troubled past. On the local battles, we have a similar situation here. NC State plays UNC-Charlotte. The 4 North Carolina ACC schools don't schedule Charlotte, but they do schedule the remaining 11 schools in the North Carolina university system. The press are calling it the "Battle of I-85". The other story is a possible UNC/Kansas game with the Roy Williams tie-in. Another one is the hopes of another UNC/Duke matchup in the semis. The 2 regular season games were brutal. This is a real stretch cause the likelihood of both of them getting that far is pretty slim.

I just don't seehow the ACC is considered that much stronger of a conference than everybody else. I KNOW UNC,Duke and Wake are all "good" teams, but all the pre selection night hype abput three teams being number 1 seeds. How can you seed a team # 1 if they don't even play in their conference final?Enough about that. Being a "homey", I'll take Louisville over UNC in the title game with a total score of 163. Oklahome State and Syracuse are the other two Final Four teams. ------------------ 2000 Black with hand painted blue faded to purple flames

I think I'll frame this prediction and call you in a couple of weeks. You might be off just a little bit. JMO The reason I say this is that Kansas has lost 5 out of their last 8 games. Hard to turn around and get sharp enough to make it all the way after that. I don't know. Might do it? This message has been edited by Bcoffman Gray Ghost on 03-15-2005 at 06:35 PM

Marty -I agree with you that the ACC is not "that much stronger of a conference than everybody else". As a matter of fact from top to bottom the Big East 9 (IMO) is stronger and I agree that the Big East deserved 6 teams in the tournament vs. the 5 of the ACC. I just think (and obviously the selection committee agrees) the ACC is very top heavy this year with their top 3 of UNC, Wake and Duke. To defend these 3, the only non conference loss any of them had was Wake's a** kicking by Illinois up in Champange early in the year and that happened to a lot of people. Now that I say this, none of them will get in the Great Eight! I get your point about not making it to your conference finals, but the selections are on a full season and why give a substantial penalty to a team for a great season due to a loss late in the season or in a conference tournament to a quality opponent. I think very strong cases of this are Illinois' loss to Ohio State and UNC's loss to GA Tech. Everybody seems to pick Carolina as the favorite. I don't know about that. They and Illinois probably have the most talent of all the teams and UNC probably has more depth, but I've seen lapses of poise and focus in Carolina that make them venerable and ripe for an upset. Plus most fans outside of North Carolina will pull against Carolina & Duke. Sorry for the lenghty response, but I'm a college b-ball junkie and love this time of the year! Good luck to the Cards!

Looeyville kicked Cincy's butt twice. I think they might go to the Final Four. I don't think UK is as strong as they usally are.
