Your Buckeyes knocked off unbeaten Illinois today. Home boy Sylvester made the big bucket. His dad grew up right behind me when we were young.

Thanks Ed, I was stuck on the train to work during the game. My Mom & a few friends called to congratulate me & let me know what happened. I saw the footage when I got to work, great ending!!! Too bad they won't play past this week. How well did you know his Dad? I am sure they were living on cloud nine! Go Bucks! WildBill

His grandparents lived behind us when I was in about the 5th to 8th grade. She told the local grocer to hire me as a delivery boy and I started the day I got out of the 7th grade. I used to deliver their groceries and his dad and uncle were about in the 2nd and 3rd grade and my little brother was in the 3rd grade and we would play football in the back yard. I would play on my knees and they were tough kids. One played pro football for the Raiders and the other one played pro basketball in Italy for years. They had several younger siblings but I don't remember all of their names. Mike Sylvester and Steve Sylvester were the oldest two and they wanted to name their little brother VADA for Vada Pinson who played for the Cincinnati REDS at the time. He was a pretty big star in the late 50s and early 60s. I do not know if this is Steve or Mike's son. Their dad was bald and looked way older than their mom. He was a really nice guy. His name is Vito and her name is Betty. They have to be in their 70s or older. I ran into Mike or Steve at the Pine Club in Dayton about 12 years ago but haven't seen them since. They were all really nice people and enjoyed great success. Steve sells real estate now.On a loosely related note, my 10 year old grandson's team won the basketball championship tonight. There were 8 or 10 teams in the league and they won 30 to 29. He scored the last 4 or 6 points. He got fouled and made the first of a one and one, missed the second, got his own rebound and got fouled shooting again. He made the first shot of those two. He had just scored one or two shots just prior to that. I think those were the only points he scored the entire game. It was a thriller, for sure.

Ed- Those kids/grandkid games are better than the Final Four aren't they?I missed my first ACC in 12 years to attend my son's roller hockey games this past weekend and had a blast! It's a special time in their lives and it's sure sweet to share it with them.

So your Grandson won the game in the clutch! That's great! Whether he scored more during the game or not, it's great that he kept his composure & came through when his team needed it under all of that pressure! Especially during the Championship Game! I hope you at least took him out for some ice cream! With sprinkles! Great story about the Sylvester family... Too bad we didn't win the Big Ten Championship Tournament. Would have made up for the fact we aren't allowed to attend the Big Show...
Randy, It's great that you went to your son's games & I am sure he appreciates it... I know how much it meant to me when I was playing... WildBill
