Okay, I have had enough of this rain. We have now reached the third wettest winter in recorded history here in San Diego. Since Jan. 1, San Diego has received more rain than Seattle. I know there are still areas back east that are getting snow, but c'mon, this is Southern California! "It never rains in Southern California...." BS!!!We live on a canyon and have lost quite a bit of our wall to slumping. We are lucky though as the house is safe and will not go anywhere. The Santa Paula airport lost its runway yesterday. Lake Hodges was 17% full just six weeks ago. It is now 100% and spilling over the dam. And TORNADOES!! I left Ohio to get away from things like tornadoes and lightning. Enough of my rant. I do hope everyone in So Cal is safe and stays dry. Cheers.

XPGuy, part of your problem (take it from another steep canyon dweller!!) is the old-school ice plant you have on your slope. It is NOT a good material for soil retention, erosion control or slope control, as it is very heavy (especially when wet), and does not have a deep root system.I ripped all of mine out after a similar problem, and had a landscaper come out and hydroseed a special erosion control mix that is primarily a tall type of fescue. Much easier to care for, and no more erosion problems since then.... Hope it doesn't get any worse for you.

Don,We have the ice plant mainly for fire protection. The last major fire came within sight of my house, but luckily stopped before coming up my canyon. I had heard it is not so good for erosion protection. Here are a couple pictures of our local golf course. The Accenture Match Play tournament is delayed until tomorrow due to the condition of the course at La Costa, about ten miles from here.

Wish you all the best and hope that you all stay safe. Right now, we have snow, but I'll take that over the problems you have..........I just hope it turns out okay for you.
