Who's going to the Daytona 500 this year? This is my first time going. I have tickets in the "OldField" section close to turn 4. I am going to be driving up to Daytona from Jupiter for the day (Sunday) and I am interested in a better way of getting there? Normally I would take I-95N to Intn'l Drive exit....but I know there will be a lot of traffic in the area. Is there a good back door route I can take? Also where is a good place to park. I don't mind walking a mile or two as long as I don't have to sit in traffic for 3 hours. ------------------ Brian K. Richardson West Palm Beach, FL http://www.brianrichardson.net

Spoons, the Sandy Hook crew will be there again this year. I always stay in Daytona so as not to deal with Sunday traffic. I am sure Chuck and I would like to find you on Sunday for a cold one, or come up on Sat. when it's not so crazy. Do you miss those zero temperatures yet?------------------ BackinBlack

Brian, I'm not going, but I know who's going to win! Wishful thinking--of course. I think DEI made a mistake getting rid of Big Daddy Hillbilly for Jr's (little hillbilly) crew chief. Wonder how that will play out? They missed the setup big time with a shredded tire during practice. Did Uncle Tony lose his setup books?

Jim - my heart this season goes with Mark Martin, in his last full season,,,,,,but I don't think a double dose of Viagra will win him a Cup title.

Since I live here, let me help you a bit. The best thing Daytona did was create satellite parking areas with free parking and bus service to the track. For you sitting in the north stands the south parking areas can be used but then you must take the trolley around (or walk) to the front from the backstrectch where the bus lets you off. Not undoable but a little more trouble. If you come early then it is the way to go since it is less crowded on the south side than the north. If this is what you want to do, then come up I-95 and get off at SR400,Beville Road (exit just after Port Orange exit #256 or 258??) and go east. First traffic light go left (north) and the lot will be about 500 yards north of the light. We did it this way a year ago for the Firecracker 400 and it was really great. In and out in record time. In and sitting down in 45 minutes and out in 25 minutes and out of the parking lot and home in 1 hour. Can't say the same for the big one, but it is better than what they had years ago when it could take up to 2-3 hours to get out of there and in also. If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask. Tom, I don't miss the zero degree temps and the high state taxes. I do miss the summers in CT. Let's try to meet early for a drink before the big race. I'm only coming up for the day because my parents are in town staying with me. --------------------------------------------- Wally, Thanks for the info. I will try that. I here the buses work well moving people to and from the race. ----------------------------------------------- As for who I am rooting for....I am a Mopar man so I have to root for dodge, but the tickets were given to me by Pepsi....so I am torn! I would like to see Rusty win it. ------------------ Brian K. Richardson West Palm Beach, FL http://www.brianrichardson.net

Brian---You better get out to the track by 8:00 or you hit a Ton of traffic. Its going to be hard to set up a meeting place because we don't even know where we will park. I'm in Nextel Tower by Start Finish line. Tom's been going there for 14 years twice a year so he's the one to contact, I'm following him. I see Wallygator gave you some Good directions, we might meet up with him sometime between Wed-Sunday if he's around. Email Tom for his cell # hopefully we can find you in a crowd of 250000-300000!------------------

Do you mean that with all the dumb rules, the stupid restricter plate , the no passing, corporate indulgance, and the fixed races, there will still be 200,000 other people there besides us? Why would that be?? HMMMM...------------------ BackinBlack

The race was a good time but very cold. I think next year I'll watch in HDTV on my plasma. A friend of mine gave me directions that were easy in and out of Daytona. Never sat in traffic at all. Worked out perfect.
