CJ, I know there was a Howler Concept that had original prowler rims. Later on, there was a Howler with different rims. Questions: 1. How many Howlers were produced? Was it just one car that they changed the wheels on? Thanks |

Orange - from the pic you posted those wheels look like American Racing Torq-Thrust polished wheels. I'll se if I can find a link or more pics. Bob Goetz at RealRod can order custom sizes from AR. |

They are definitly Boyd's Smoothies, a lot different than the cast American Racing wheels. If I remember correctly the Boyds' smoothies are not expense, mainly because they are cast. Personally, I always use billeted or forged wheels. They are more money, but a lot stronger and lighter. Currently, I use centerlines forgeline series on my tahoe. The inspiration for my "Billet" Center Cap design for the OEM Prowler Wheels with exposed Chrome lug nuts, was the Original American Racing Torqu-thrust wheel design. These "Billet" Center Caps will again be available in 10 days... expecting them from the machine shop on or about the 20th of February. Sorry for the slow response. I've been down this week with a bad case of the flu. Yes, there was only one Howler...yes, they changed the wheels. Bob is headed over to MSX today and says if he has time, he'll check out the wheels. According to this article, the rims are the same as Prowlers...17 front and 20 rear. http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/stories/howler/howler_drive4.html This message has been edited by CJ on 02-11-2005 at 10:11 AM |

I've been down this week with a bad case of the flu.
And the doctor says I had "influenza" really nasty... high temps, chills, achy..etcetcetc... and they also said there was a VERY large SURPLUS of unused flu vaccine.. which of course will go to waste. They prevented 'the masses' from getting flu shots last fall supposedly from a shortage.. my first time w/o one in 5 yrs... go figure...... |

CJ, Is the Howler still around? And that V-8 looks like it fit nicely? Too bad its not at the Prowler Museum! |

Custom built American Racing Wheels Torque Thrust II's. There's any number of similar wheels out there on the market. I remember American making the set. Yes, the car still exists. No, it will never go anywhere except to the big crusher in the sky. Everyone always gets whacked out and excited whenever this fate is mentioned. Concept vehicles and substantially modified vehicles that manufacturers develop and sometimes show to the public are not legal, certified vehicles. They can not be registered. Sorry, but that's the fate they face in today's regulatory society. |

While I understand the fate with alot of them, why this one? It's just a slightly modified prowler. Different engine, add a bed. Do they really need to crash test 20 of these when any yahoo can build a home built kit car and drive it on the same streets? |

quote: Oh yeah.........I can't EVER remember being this sick. Dr. says there's all kinds of strains running around right now and really can't do anything but ride it out. To add insult to injury, I also developed a severe sinus infection. At least they gave me an antibiotic for that. Kozican.........looks like Bob answered your questions for me! |

American Racing Torq-Thrust II's, wow, I never would have guessed that! Orange - as I said earlier - Bob Goetz (Real Rod) has an arrangement with American Racing to make these in Prowler sizes with different backsapce so the rear wheels stick out 3/4 inch further in the wheel wells. quote: The difference between some yahoo building a kit car is that if anything goes wrong, no one is liable except him. If something failed on the Howler then Chrysler would be liable. I think this is all a result of all the law suits being filed and won these days. If a woman can get a big settlement for spilling hot coffee on her self, then if I were a manufacture I would not risk selling a concept car either. |

If it is a Prowler modified ... then why couldn't someone modify a prowler to be one? And if it had a V8, then why can't anyone put that engine in their prowler? |

The V8 in the Howler had 3 fewer horses than the existing V6... |
