Car journalist went around a corner on a closed circuit (Equinox Mountain, Vermont) and just kept on going. Smashed over guard post, landed parallel to the mountainside, six inches from a 50 foot drop. This message has been edited by kat hunter on 01-19-2005 at 03:01 PM

Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence. The press / journalists have wrecked many company vehicles like this. Can't begin to tell you how many Vipers bit the dust under the same circumstances. The car companies hold "ride and drives" for the press so that they can evaluate the vehicles and write their stories........However, a lot of these journalists do not always use the best judgment in driving these vehicles and as a result, there are crashes and have even been deaths.

I haven't drove the GT but if you get in a Viper and you nail it with the wheels turned your in serious trouble. You don't even have to nail it if the tires are cold. There have been many stories about guys and a old lady picking up their new Vipers and crashing them down the road. Not to many people have driven a car with that kind of Horsepower. Everyone thinks they are excellant drivers. Most are not. If it was me I would have some Skip barber driving instructers with each of the journalists. It would be a lot cheaper in the long run.------------------

Our friend, who owns the Corvette rental store in Scottsdale, has tried several times to keep a Viper in stock to rent. Too many bad stories to report,,,,,,tires and wheels come back in all bent and damaged after striking the curbs. Just too much raw stock power for most people to handle.

During the Prowlin' the Smokies event DC had journalist driving the then new, Viper Truck and other vehicles throughout Eastern Tennessee and one of them wrecked a new Viper of Tail of the Dragon.I'll have to do a search and see if I can find the picture.
