Please help. A good friend is looking for a 1969 Mach 1. This one is here in San Diego being sold by a kid going off to college who inherited it. I need to know if his story is true. The VIN listed is 9r02h122323. I am driving it in the morning. He says it is all original with only 37K miles. If so, this kid does not know what he has.

Thanks,
Guy

After reading his eBay listing, it looks like he knows exactly what he has (or maybe wants you to think he has). "Formerly owned by Steven Seagal" and "Show quality" for a meer $18,000? Something does not smell right here.

That is my first thought. But I talked to the kid today and will meet him tomorrow. Just wanted to see if I was wasting my time before going over there. Only a couple miles away.

BTW, I am not a Steven Seagal fan. Fat wannabe that cannot act.

Get a good mechanic to go over it.

There are too many ways to cheat a CarFax plus it doesn't report or tell you things a mechanic can/might find.

I've walked away from too many "cherry" cars with "perfect" CarFaxes that my mechanic found to be real lemons.......

According to a mustang data plate decoder for the vin.

9 - 1969
r - assembled in San Jose
02 - 2 door fastback
h - 351 2 barrel
122323 - unit number

If you go look at it check these out:

On the warranty plate on the door ( if the door is original and the plate is original).

body style code must be 63C for a Mach 1.
Transmission codes
1 - 3sp manual
5 - 4 sp manual (2.78 ratio)
6 - 4 sp manual (2.32 close ratio)
u - c-6 auto
w - c-4 auto
x - fmx auto

Hope this is a little help

Just looked at the pictures and its either not a real Mach 1 or it has been repainted.
The rear end I think always had the black honeycomb panel. (pretty sure on this),
and the hood ( if memory serves correctly ) had flat black painted down the center. They also had black lower panels from the back of the front wheel to the front of the back wheel, don't remember what they were called.

Just a quick warning. This Mustang was within a few hours of ending and the high bid was $20K. I drove the car and knew the kid did not know what he had. Long story short, the kid pulls the car from eBay right before it ends, then relists it with a $28K reserve. Not much I can do but badmouth the kid, but I was that close to picking this up. Still one sweet ride.
