Had our old DELL system 5+ years, showing signs of fatigue, saturation, aging...scanner quit working over a year ago, and everything is beige incl scanner & speakers--yuck!

Today I ordered a new BLACK Dimension 3000, Pentium 4, Windows XP, 3GHz, 800 FSB, 512MB Dual Channel SDRAM, Wireless Keyboard w/Optical Mouse, 17" Flat Screen, CD/DVD Burners, 80GB Hard Drive, 3-yr warranty and an all-in-one DELL printer, Flat-Panel speakers, etc.

Just wondering how many POA members use DELL vs whatever brand is in 2nd place?

Just got a Dell 700m and like it a lot, better than my Sony Vaio.

I need to upgrade my computer here at home, but I have not done it yet. We started upgrading with Dells at work about six months ago and we are pleased with them so far. So far we changed out about 10 of our 28 computers to Dell.

Tell me how your wireless mouse works out--and for that matter, the wireless keyboard too, Larry...as both are coming to our door soon!

I swear AT Dell PCs ( or any PC for that matter, I don't discriminate). Does that count?

My 1998 Gateway 350MGz 2 gig machine was incredibly slow, even after going to a high speed digital line. It still would have been fine, had it not contracted an addtional and deadly Ebola virus.

Thanks to my newphew, I had a new box built and got it commissioned November 23rd this year. It includes a Pentium 4 processor, Windows XP, 3GHz, 800 FSB, 512MB Dual Channel SDRAM, 19" Sony X-Brite LCD Flat Screen, CD/DVD Burners, 80GB Hard Drive and a secure digiatal card photo reader + 3-yr warranty.

Geezzz..I love my new machine. But there were some gut wrenching moments trying to retrieve the data from the old machine. I think more computers would be sold if Data exchange from old machine to new was as seemless as a click?

To respond directly...no I don't have a Dell...but my feeling is that Dell has a good reputation and is certainly a good value.

If you are in the market for a Dell, follow this and get an additional 6% - 12% off (depends on the price of the system you order). Go to www.dell.com then click on "Government, Education, & Healthcare", then click on "Federal Government", then click on "Employee Purchase Program", then under where it says "if you do not know your member ID you can enter the store" just click "Federal Civilian". Shop your PC and this extra discount will appear in the cart in addition to all the other discounts that show up such as the package discount, free printer, free shipping, etc. You do not have to be a Federal Employee to take advantage of this program!!!! The program is for Federal employees, family, and friends (if you have a Prowler you are a friend of mine

My Dell will be 3 years old in Feb. Coming from a machine that self re-booted on average every 7 minutes for 6 years, I love my Dell! It has never given me a single problem when it comes to running programs or working the internet, but I have always had problems with my CD-RW drive disappearing.
From all I've read, MANY others have complained about their CD-RW drive too. I have to reboot to get it back every time I want to use it, and every time I call Dell for help under my PAID 3 yr extended warranty, all they tell me to do is reboot again. I'm going to work on getting them out to REPLACE it before the warranty ends. Great computer, but the extended warranty service really sucks. That said, everyone go out and buy a Dell so my stock goes up. I need to eat.

Mike, I am A FEDERAL GOV'T (Civil Service) employee--but got NO extra discount for that! Too late now as the DELL credit card has been charged~LOL. I always obtain $5,000 DELL Credit, purchase the system using it, then pay it off when the bill comes! Quickest way to order!
If anyway to POST-DATE Discounts....lemme know! Thanks!

Tangled - your son is a handsome dude and his wife is very pretty. Your son must have gotten some good genes from someplace...maybe your wife?

We use Dells at work and I have a Dell desktop at home. They give very good service. I have a Toshiba laptop.

I've been using a wireless mouse and keyboard for over six months. Both are great in my book. I also use a Linksys wireless router in my home and I've had a couple technical problems with it, but their customer support is very good. One problem I've seen is that the router sometimes fails to adopt to the external modem when it does an internal modulation to maintain high DSL speeds. I just unplug the modem and router for 10 seconds and when I plug them back in everything is ok.

Again, I wouldn't operate now without the wireless router, wireless mouse and keyboard.

I got Gateway systems at home and at work. I replaced my tower at work this summer with a custom unit put together by a local guy who does work on our PCs.

Dell is constantly in the news here since they have selected Piedmont North Carolina for their newest manufacturing plant. The state gave them a huge incentive package and now 2 counties are dueling for the plant with incentive packages of their own.

Not an answer to your question, but I've always had good luck with the Sony Vaios. Had the old slimtop for 5 years on W98 and XP on the new unit. Neither have given me a bit of trouble and the keyboards have a great feel too--not that it matters as I'm a two finger typist. My neighbor's Dell felt clunky.

BTW I have a Dell lattitude for travel -- got it used off ebay -- love it! Only weighs 3 lbs.
