Anybody here play Home Depot Hide and Seek? It's a lot of fun. The people who work at Home Depot hide merchandise and then you try to find it. For example, last week I went to Home Depot to get some of those plastic electrical outlet inserts to "child-safe" our office. I looked and looked in the electrical outlet section. Guess where they were? They were on an inconspicuous display next to the drawer handles on the other side of the store. I and the sales guy -- who, as part of the game, I had to spend 10 minutes seeking out -- had a great time.

I played the game again today. I went to get an outdoor flood light. You know, the kind you use to illuminate a flag. Ready or not, here I come! After 20 minutes of looking in the outdoor lighting aisle and the four adjacent aisles, one of the sales people showed me where it was: in the indoor fluorescent lighting area.

These Home Depot folks are really good at this game. So good, in fact, I'm going to have to start looking farther and farther away from where the items I'm after should be. I think the next time I play, I'll start looking at Lowe's.

Been there done that, here in St.Pete.there is a Lowes across street from Home Depot so I have now switched to Lowes and I find they have everthing that Home Depot has and will meet all prices plus the main thing to me is I can usally check out without a long line and when they get really busy they will open more registers which I have ask Home Depot to do with no luck.

We have both, just a few hundred yards away from each other. Since I'm currently doing a bathroom remodel, I have spent lots of time in the past few weeks at both stores. Having purchased a few extra items, I needed to make a few returns yesterday.

Lowes doesn't require the original credit card when making a return, while HD does. Since my picture is on my credit card, mom couldn't help me out and make the returns at HD. A real hassle. Of course a recpt was present at both places.

My vote is for HD.

Same for me, both within afew hundred yards of each other. I tend to frequent Lowe's just because they're first on the route from my house. HD is harder to get in and out of traffic-wise. We also just finished a basement remodel (actually just finishing and unfinished basement) and I will say that Lowe's messed up on our order for counter tops and one closet door. Quoted a delivery date and now they're saying it will be at least two weeks later than the original date... Most everything else they had in stock. We used a lot of track lighting down there and Lowe's prices and quality is pretty good in that department.

I never seem to have a problem finding stuff at the HD by me. Of course, I spend more time there then at home buying stuff. Even stuff I really don't need.

Have started our winter project of building a home theater room . So we will be at Lowe's for a lot of our materials. The fun has begun.

Great post "rsterling78!" I have grown to dislike the hide a seek game...

Lowes is better organized, cleaner AND, I'm not constantly tripping over "crap" lying in the isles...

The problem is I get lazy because the Home Depot is right down the road from my house and Lowe's is further away.

I joke that either Lowe's or home depot is a man's mall.

I think Lowe's stores are cleaner and far better organized.
I can go right to the article I need at Lowe's. Hide & seek at HD.

A HD store is closer to our home, so I go there if in a hurry, but prefer Lowe's. Also Lowe's is headquartered in Wilksboro, NC; so I feel like I've helped a in-state business. They are a good corporate citizen from what I can see.

I think George Maxey does business with Lowe's.

We are suppliers to both LOWES and HOME DEPOT. From the beginning, DEPOT never want a neat organized store. They wanted it to looked shopped in. With the many changes at DEPOT, there are lot's of changes. Wider asiles, neater departments, and a much broader selection of merchandise. There will always be better LOWES stores in an area and better DEPOT stores in other areas. They are both great to do business with.

UPDATE:

Now Lowe's has gotten in on the act. I went there today to get a couple of light bulbs. Being the idiot that I am, I started looking in the "lighting" section. A Lowe's salesperson redirected me to aisle one. I found my light bulbs under a great big sign that said "lawn maintenance."

Lowe's update: My countertops came Saturday, 3 of 4 were OK, but the 'bar' top was 6 inches short... outside length 97", inside 87", so they off course made the top 90 3/4" long.... do they even READ the specs???

Also arriving was a closet door, regular bypass sliders, just longer than a standard opening so they had to be ordered. Box said Instructions and Hardware Inside, but the box contained only the doors, NO instructions, NO tracks or other mounting hardware...

The 1st Home Depot I went to I LOVED it but I was in Georgia and not looking to buy anything. LIKE GOING TO A MUSEUM TO CHECK IT OUT.

Then they advertised them on Nascar races but we had none in INDY. Now I have one real close to the house.

I HATE IT, I can never find anything, including help. They never have more then 2 registers open, one for contractors and one 1/2 way thru the store

I GO TO LOWES 1ST. It is just across the interstate. Maybe 1/2 mile further from my house.

I did find at HD a piece for a lock I was working on that Lowes didn't have

I'll SHOP Lowes 1st

I hate the "know it alls" at the depot. Everyone has been in business and blah blah blah. As long as I can get in and out and find what I need, they both have some things better than the other. Lowes for pressure treated, hd for cabinet stain grade. Done enough building here that I don't need someone trying to BS through what they think the codes are because they used to put in cabinets at a trailer park.....

my vote goes to Lowes also, the HD near me is always messed up. When the Lowes opened they had employees everywhere but after a few months they play hide & seek at times but at least the aisles are neat

Here in the stix all we have is Lowes. They suck! Mostly because we are in a bad demographic where the ship all the crap the big cities don't want down here.
