Ebay has done it again. Which of these should I wire transfer my hard earned money for?

Orange for $13k

'99 Red for $7800

'97 Purple for $12.9K

Maybe I'll buy all three and part 'em out!

For that Orange, I wonder if they accidentally may have reversed their numbers when entering the "But it now" price. Bet they're going to be sorry.

O.K. - emailed one of the sellers and that's what I got in response - never seen anything like it but if payment goes through eBay !

BUT it might be a "phishing" scam - the email adress looks fishy - much like those emails where you are asked to verify your eBay account and password - and it will be hijacked !

WOULDN'T RISK IT - that email adress looks suspicious !!

******************************************************

I would say the scam is as follows:
1. They make you think you are buying through a secure, eBay-backed/secured transaction.
2. They send you to a fake site that looks like an eBay site but actually is there to get your payment info., probably PayPal or Western Union.
3. They email you back saying they are shipping the car free (!)
4. They have your $$ and the unsuspecting idiot waits thinking, "Hey, it's backed by eBay, how could this be a scam?"
5. Notice the line that says you can get a full refund if the car ain't what they said it was. How could you get scammed with a guarantee like that?

I replied to both. One said he was in the UK and would ship it for free, that was why it was so cheep.

The other said he would only use door to door shipping, nothing else. He refused to meet me when I said I would meet him with cash.

Tom - you didn't say which 2...

Everyone - Here's what I know... The seller is mine333. mine333 IS a POA member and had his car listed for sale on here a while back. I thought it finally sold on ebay a while back when it didn't sell here. I noticed this car on ebay about a week ago and noticed it had sold at that time. Then this latest ad was listed selling it again. (BTW, I'm referring to the 97 above.) I contacted ebay a few days ago on that with both ads and they noticed that the latest ad stated that the buyer from the last ad backed out and that was why it was listed again. I went back to it and noticed that this was in fact stated in the ad. At that time, this car was listed @ $27K with buy now @ $28K. Later, I noticed that he revised the ad, removing the last buyer backing out info,
changed the ask price to $12,900 with no buy it now. Now it is listed with ask $12,900 and buy @ $12,900 but when you go to see what he revised in the ad, it only shows one date listing changes. All this, combined with the latest price is certainly cause for suspicion. Possibilities are:
1. POA member mine333 is a scammer.
2. He had his ebay account hacked.
3. He is desparate to sell and having trouble doing so.
If emailing this guy, You might try emailing POA member mine333 from info on this site. Then, email mine333 from the ebay ad. See if the return address is the same (this might not tell you anything). See if the info given in responses are the same. Ask where he is located. The ebay ad doesn't say. Compare to info on here listing where he is. Try to find someone to look at the car. See what this guy is all about. It could be legit, then again, maybe it is a scam. If its for real, this could be a great buy for someone! Use caution and act fast!

Ok. Check this out. This guy is good. In a really bad way.

I was gonna go ahead and volunteer as the guinea pig on the purple 97 and hit the buy it now button, but I figured I'd check a couple of things first.

I checked to see if the domain www.ebaysafe.net actually existed. It does:
http://www.ebaysafe.net

It looks legit, doesn't it? When you click on any of the links on that page, it takes you to various pages on the REAL SquareTrade site (look up in your address window). What this guy did is copy SquareTrade's home page and used it as the home page for ebaysafe.net, pointing all the links on HIS home page to the corresponding pages on the ACTUAL Square Trade site. Very smart. Wildly devious, but smart. Red flag number 1.

Then I went to network solutions to see who owns it. It belongs to a guy in NY - here's the info:

Registrant:
Eric Staruck
11 Main Street
Schenevus, New York 12155
US

Registrar: NAMESDIRECT
Domain Name: EBAYSAFE.NET
Created on: 04-OCT-04
Expires on: 04-OCT-05
Last Updated on: 04-OCT-04

Administrative, Technical Contact:
Staruck, Eric procycleusa@aol.com
11 Main Street
Schenevus, New York 12155
US
6076389081

Here's the link:
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/results .jhtml;jsessionid=BSYX2LYC5L0QQCWLEALCFEY?whoistoken=0&_requestid=585822

Now look at the Administrative/Technical contact email address: procycleusa@aol.com

That email address corresponds with the signature in the response to Dustis email:

Sincerely,

Internet Sales Manager ]www.ProCycleUsa.net

So I went and checked out who owns procycleusa.net :

Domain Name.......... procycleusa.net
Creation Date........ 2004-10-04
Registration Date.... 2004-10-04
Expiry Date.......... 2005-10-04
Organisation Name.... Eric Staruck
Organisation Address. 11 Main Street
Organisation Address.
Organisation Address. Schenevus
Organisation Address. 12155
Organisation Address. NY
Organisation Address. UNITED STATES

Admin Name........... Eric Staruck
Admin Address........ 11 Main Street

Admin Address........ Schenevus
Admin Address........ 12155
Admin Address........ NY
Admin Address........ UNITED STATES
Admin Email.......... capsha3k@yahoo.com
Admin Phone.......... +1.6076389081

Here's the link:
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/results .jhtml;jsessionid=BSYX2LYC5L0QQCWLEALCFEY?whoistoken=2&_requestid=587666

What that means is that the same guy who owns procycleusa.net owns ebaysafe.net. Oops. Big giant gnarly Red Flag number 2.

Notice that procycleusa.net AND ebaysafe.net just came into existence on October 4 - 4 days ago. Oops again there Eric. Bigger oops - it lists his phone number. I didn't check to see if it worked or not - I don't want to tip this guy off that someone's on to him.

I then went to check out procycleusa.net which does exist:
http://www.procycleusa.net

but neither of the phone numbers listed on the contact page are good. One gets a fast busy, the other gives you a recording referring you to some kind of party line. Red Flag number 3.

I went back to ebaysafe.net, looked it over carefully, then went to squaretrade.com - and guess what - it's absolutely identical in every respect, including all the links.
http://www.squaretrade.com

Somebody needs to report this guy to both ebay and the FBI. This is a very sophisticated scam, not just some dildo who got a stupid idea and ran a phony auction. This took a lot of thought and a lot of preparation, and even more malicious intent.

If I remember correctly from another thread, TLRandall is one of Texas' finest - a full fledged bonafide officer of the law. Officer Randall - would you care to take this from here?

Have an excellent day : )

From Google:

Business Phonebook Results 1 - 1 of 1 for 6076389081. (0.01 seconds)

I'd call the Schenevus Police department on this guy!

The "seller" is said to be the son of the local Judge and the family owns a large Mac Truck and "high end" car dealership in the area. This is from a Deputy I spoke to tonight. He seems to know the family name well. He said there is not much they can do. The Deputy said I can snail mail the info to him (he said they have no email access!) and he can look into it or forward it to the NY State Police for internet crime investigation.

Not to worry. Deputy Dog pulled down all the evidence (the ebay auction, his websites, everything) in anticipation of just such an event : )

Lemme know if you need me to email them to you as jpegs.

I think that says it all. Going any further with this is fruitless, right Tom?
