Hey Damon, just thought I'd share with you how close I came to getting my special 'little guy'.....who was in to the vet yesterday for his health certification. He was supposed to be on the plane to me this week from Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately, this time around in the x-rays, the vet discovered that this Boykin has advanced hip dysplasia and will need total hip replacement within the next couple of months. He's only 5 years old.

Fortunately, the organization does not destroy animals and he will be placed in a foster home locally.

Soooo close. Looks like I'm cruising solo this summer.....

a dog (the 4 legged kind)

Boykin spaniel is a small hunting dog, bred on the east coast. Almost impossible to find here. The reputable breeders only want to sell puppies to "hunting" families. I'm hoping to find one through the rescue organizations so it's going to take some time.

But anything worthwhile takes time. Just have to keep the faith, as they say.

I'm sorry to hear that your search didn't turn out better. Its always sad to see that happen to a dog. Good luck down the road.
Speaking of down the road, head east... I'll go for a ride with ya. I might even poke my head out the top, stick my tongue out, and drool alot if that'll make ya feel any better.

Beckham - 3-4 year old neutered male, approx. 50lbs., short coat (Lab like), Very dominant with other dogs but very submissive to people. He acts as if he's been abused. Has absolutely no interest in retrieving. He has been kenneled outside in a run so indoor and housetraining issues are unknown. He doesn't solicit attention but warms up quickly when he gets it. He needs a home where he will get a lot of positive attention. Beckham will make a great pet. He was found wandering around the interstate in the Camden, SC area. He was named by the shelter after the Vet that rescued him from the interstate and he responds to it now. Beckham is being fostered by Norval Davis in Ninety Six, SC. Contact Norval at (864) 227-1489. Norval will lead you through the adoption application process.

Thanks all....didn't mean to send you on a wild goose chase. I posted this because VCD had offered to go and check out a dog if I were to find one in his area. I am quite familiar with the Boykin rescue site and organization. Have been working with them since January. There are several requirements on my end so it will take a little bit before everything falls into place. The little guy I was after is on the rescue site currently. I have checked into several breeders as well....some are better than others. Just because they're selling pups doesn't mean they're so great. However, I am really not after a puppy ~ I prefer an adult dog. And I have a hang up about going through rescue rather than buying one more puppy.

I truly appreciate all your research efforts. With the temps beginning to climb, I've just about reached the cutoff where the airlines won't ship animals. I may have to wait a while. Or find myself lots of friends throughout the states who would drive. That's a lot to ask of people.

Wil ~ rec'd your email....I'll be contacting you!

Thanks,
Debbie
