I was on an aircraft carrier once when a fighter did a fly-by just as he crossed into supersonic speed, and it looked just like that. You could actually see it developing. The vapor cloud built up in front of the jet as he was flying low over the water, and then as he broke the sound barrier he crossed through it just like the picture. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. ------------------
