Just got the latest issue of Mopar Magazine. It states in an article on the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 that it is officially a concept, but a production version will go on sale in 2004 under the Magnum name. It said that when you look at the Magnum SRT-8 concept, you're pretty much looking at the production version.

The article says......

"There are probably few words that make a Mopar enthusiast's heart beat a few ticks faster than HEMI and rear-wheel drive. In fact, it's been more than 30 years since Dodge ruled the streets with HEMI power and rear-wheel drive..........The Magnum SRT-8 is powered by a completely re-engineered version of the original HEMI engine made famous for its pavement-shredding power in the 1950's and 1960's. The all-new, 5.7 liter HEMI V-8 is supercharged and churns out an estimated 430 horsepower and 480-lb.ft of torque in the Magnum SRT-8 concept. Whether the supercharged version will make it to production hasn't been announced............"

Friend of mine at the Brampton Assembly Plant were told in January that this is one of the cars to be built at that facility. The plant currently produces Intrepid, Concorde, 300M all of which will stop production in six months or so. Plant will be shut down for a few months to be retooled to produce 3-5 different models including Magnum. Others could be replacement 300, Intrepid and perhaps Charger if given the go-ahead.

I don't know CJ. I'm on pretty good terms with the local fleet manager at a Dodge dealer out here and he has stated that all the dealers are screaming for the Charger R/T. In fact if you go to Motor Trend.com and look under future cars, 2004, if does indeed say that Charger will be built with 3 engine options. I'll tell you one thing, if Chrysler doesn't build this car Ford and GM are going to kick our butts to pieces. With the new Mustang fast back and the GTO on the way we need something more than a station wagon even if it does have a HEMI.

Cat-A-Tonic...........hey, I'm not the know all, see all guru.........but neither do I believe most things I read in print, either! Of course all the dealers would be screaming for the Charger......but that isn't what DC makes their decisions based on.

Also remember that concept vehicles that are put into production are usually not exactly as they were shown as concepts. There are always changes..........was even with the Prowler. Look at the SSR............the production vehicle (from what I've heard) is not nearly as nice as the concept vehicle. Millions are put into building concepts..........but that's not usually a reality when building it for real......changes and cuts have to be made somewhere to make it feasible to mass produce. So, if they actually should decide to build a Charger...don't count on it being the same!
