Check this out. Be patient, it takes a little time to load. This is unbelievable! When you open up the URL below, scroll down to see all three pictures. The airplane was an ANA flight from a city in Japan to China. This incident happened at take-off, the plane returned to the airport with NO injuries and no Boeing support was required. Someone on the ground just happened to catch the pictures. ------------------ |

Mike, Spectacular! This is not as rare an occurrence as one might think though. Aircraft take lightening strikes all the time with no damage. It is more rare to have damage to an aircraft from lightening. I believe because they are not grounded. Getting a picture, or series of pictures, of this happening is the most rare. |

If the plane is not grounded how did it choose the plane as its path?? The resistence path must have been lower somehow. ------------------ |

Dan, The metal plane would have been the path of least resistance as I assume it’s a better conductor than the charged air. Cool to see. Woulnd't have wanted to be a passenger though. ------------------ |

The airplane simply served as a conductor for the charged particles... notice how it continued onto the ground below. Pretty awsume set of pictures though. |
