Here's the DC Press Release:

"Five Hundred Uncoiled Viper Horsepower = Most Powerful
Production Pickup Ever

ex • cess n. 1. action or conduct that goes beyond the usual, reasonable or lawful limit

Chicago, Ill., Feb. 13, 2003 - If it's worth doing, it's sometimes worth overdoing. So only Dodge could create the boldest, baddest and fastest full-size pickup ever, the Viper-powered 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10.

Taking its rightful place as the ultimate performance pickup, the 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 brings a massive dose of Viper power to the performance pickup segment, with a class-demolishing 500 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft. of torque. Topping 150 mph in maximum speed and reaching 60 mph in approximately five seconds, Dodge has recalibrated all expectations for truck performance.

"The Dodge Ram SRT-10 may be the first halo truck, but trust me, this truck is no angel," said Wolfgang Bernhard, Chief Operating Officer, Chrysler Group. "The Ram SRT-10 is true to the performance ideals that created the original Dodge Viper: keep it simple and make it fast."
"There is no replacement for displacement," added Bernhard. "The Ram SRT-10 delivers its astounding performance in a way that only Viper owners will recognize, with an endless rush of torque."

The 500 Club The numbers don't lie: the Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the most outrageous pickup ever. With 500 horsepower, 525 lb.-ft. of torque, 505 cubic inches and a 500-watt, ear-melting sound system, Dodge dominates in every category. Simply put, the 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the new performance truck icon.

The Ram SRT-10's mayhem-making ability is delivered courtesy of the highest displacement engine in a factory pickup truck-the same 8.3-liter V-10 that powers America's ultimate sports car, the all-new 2003 Dodge Viper. The V-10's horsepower rating easily surpasses all other pickups - not to mention virtually every production sports car in
the world.

"We set out to create the Viper of trucks and we delivered," said Jim Schroer, Executive Vice President - Global Sales and Marketing. "This is a unique truck - a low volume, over-the-top collectible that remakes the entire segment. In the performance truck segment, the Ram SRT-10 simply dominates the road - and proves once again that
Dodge DNA runs true and deep."

And, here's the DC press release for Advertising:

"Dodge Gives Green Flag to SRT Advertising

SRT Creative Theme: Race Inspired, Street Legal

Ad debuts during Feb. 16 NASCAR Daytona 500 on FOX
Features Elliott, Marlin, Wallace and Petty
Drivers join Daytona fans for sneak preview Feb. 14, 11:45 a.m.

aytona Beach, Fla., Feb 14, 2003 -

Dodge NASCAR drivers Bill Elliott, Sterling Marlin and Rusty Wallace, as well as racing legend Richard Petty, take a break from their day jobs to star in a new TV ad for Dodge and its line of SRT performance vehicles.

The spot, titled “Race Inspired,” features Elliott, Marlin and Wallace continuing their competition off the track as they jostle to be the first to leave the garage following a race. The pushing and shoving ends with each jumping into one of Dodge’s new SRT vehicles; Wallace into the SRT-4, Marlin into the Ram SRT-10 and Elliott into the Viper
SRT-10. Speeding out of the track, they pass Petty, standing next to his 1971 Dodge Charger race car, who says, “Sweet,” expressing his opinion of these new performance machines. The voiceover concludes, “Introducing the new SRT series. Race inspired. Street legal.”

The 30-second spot, created by BBDO Detroit, will debut during Fox’s live broadcast of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 16.

"The underlying strategy behind Street and Racing Technology (SRT) is to complete the Dodge product line from the race track to the showroom, and to send a clear message to car buyers that says 'if you want performance, then Dodge is the brand,'" said Jim Yetter, Director - Dodge Motorsports and SRT Marketing. "In this commercial, we've coined a simple saying that gets right to the point -- 'race inspired, street legal.'"

"The Dodge Viper SRT-10 has become kind of the lead dog for the SRT line," added Yetter. "The group of Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO) engineers who built the Dodge Viper SRT-10 are now sprinkling their ideas onto other vehicles.

"The new 2003 Viper was the first vehicle to carry the SRT badge, but since then, we've added two other vehicles -- the SRT-4 and the Ram SRT-10," added Yetter. "The entire SRT effort is about performance. That doesn't mean that the effort is limited to the engine. The performance driving experience involves engines, wheels, suspension, superior seating, bodywork and more. Every SRT borrows from our
racing experience and will have superior -- call it 'best in class' -- performance."

A 60-second version of the spot, including the single “Velocity Shift” by the group Overseer, will air exclusively on Yahoo.com after the race until February 20 on the site’s sports page. On February 17, the spot and the song will be available to viewers on Yahoo’s home page and the sports page.

"This commercial is designed to showcase the performance
capabilities of Dodge and to introduce these high-performance vehicles," Yetter continued. "I think this commercial speaks to the relationship that we have with our race teams. This is not like some third-party relationship where we just give them money and they go off and race. We are partners in everything that we do. We work with them on the engineering and marketing side every day."

Since its return to the Winston Cup circuit in 2001, Dodge has scored 11 victories -- seven last year -- and grabbed 12 pole positions. Marlin and Elliott earned seven wins for Dodge over the past two years. Wallace, the 1989 Winston Cup Champion, joined Dodge this year with Penske Racing South. Petty is the sport's all-time winningest driver with 200 victories.

All four drivers will be on hand when Dodge gives Daytona race fans a special live sneak preview at its Dodge City stage, across from Daytona International Speedway. That event is free to the public and scheduled for 11:45 a.m., Friday, Feb. 14."

This is a good write-up, with a couple of pics.

http://www.edmunds.com/news/autoshows/articles/89290/page015.html
This has a little advertising background on the Ram SRT-10
and a couple pics. This time it is a red truck. When I saw
it in Chicago, the truck did NOT have the rear bed cover as
the black concept vehicle did last year. My guess this will
be an option. I have been looking for pricing information
but so far I have found nothing - not even a hint of speculation!
I would guess we will start hearing some "rumblings" (sorry!)
in summer/early fall since this will be a 2004. I was hoping
to see a quad-cab truck at the show... I remember reading
in the www.car-truck.com site that a quad cab version and
pricing of the Ram SRT-10 (in the standard two door cab?)
was to be announced at the Chicago show, but this did not
happen. I hope they carry the idea into a quad cab, but
time will tell. It seems logical, but the Ram SRT is also
a more of a "sport truck" and the quad cab may oppose this
thought. I hope not! Time will tell, but at least the
Ram SRT-10 exists now and will be out next year.

I am not a truck guy, and I have never seen a truck that I really like and want to have. I think I may change my thinking after seeing that beast. What a truck!! Wow, that is nice looking.
What do you think the mileage will be in one of those?

My guess less than 10 MPG average. Our Hemi Ram has not been on the highway for any extended period yet. I am averaging 12.2 MPG but its hard to keep my foot off the loud peddle.
Does anyone know if that hood scoop is functional or for show? That hood would look cool on our Hemi Ram!

Ed, that's how I felt when I saw the Concept vehicle last year. It's on my "want list" now. BLACK of course (and the black on the concept vehicle had a touch of metalic sparkle to it - nice)! The red didn't do much for me, maybe because I was hoping to see a quad cab and was disappointed this year. No idea on pricing - I've heard guesses from low thirties to over $50k - who knows?
I'm curious if towing would be a possibility. With a truck - the obvious answer is yes, but with the SRT-10 having a sport tuned suspension, I wonder! (If it can tow, and I think it would be able to, the max capacity would probably be diminished. Think about it... interesting compromises.)

As to mileage, I agree with Rich based on aerodynamics alone. Having two extra cylinders on a big a$$ engine, I think 12-14 city is more likely though. I'll bet Highway is more like 18-20 (easy) assuming the loud/go pedal is respected and used lightly - uhhhhhh, not likely! I base this on my Viper. On the highway, at 65-70mph I'm turning 1200-1400 rpms in 6th gear. That's it! I get on average 24-26 mpg (and I've had up to 28.4!) when on the highway "cruising" at basically a constant speed. No cruise control, either on the Viper. If I do anything aggressive more than a few spirited merges and passes (ya gotta do that!) mpg starts dropping quickly. That is one issue I have with the Gas Guzzler tax based on HP and engine displacement. My PT Cruiser is averaging 22.5 mpg on a 5-speed tranny. My Viper easily gets better mileage from the bigger engine, but is a "gas guzzler". More miles for the same gallon, the government should start mandating - and offering credits! - to the use and users of larger more efficient engines. Seriously - something to think about!
That same gallon in the PT - I go 22.5 miles. Viper: 25 easy! (Minivans are 18-20mpg on a good week with a V6 smaller than the Prowler's) The Prowler gets 22-24 maybe 25 mpg. Laddie - on the new Corvettes, isn't there a gas guzzler tax? And what do the new Vettes get for mileage? Isn't it interesting that the most powerful car has a gas tax yet gets the best mileage? Makes ya go "hmmmmmmm".

I'll bet the new Ram SRT-10 will have a guzzler tax on it as well. Based on the guzzler tax alone, expect to get at least 3-5 mpg more than anticipated . Hey - maybe that tax is there because we end up using LESS gas and through the tax the government gets the fuel taxes we would have paid over the life of the vehicle all at once. Another "Hmmmmmmmm"!

Shouldn't the gas guzzler tax be imposed upon vehicles that "guzzle" gas and get lousy mileage per gallon? They should call it a Fun Factor tax, because that is what it really is! (But I digress...) Soap Box mode OFF

GPS John,

I think trucks get alot of breaks that cars don't. I wouldn't expect to see a gas guzzler tax on it.

I'd also guesstimate the price of about $45K

This thing is a GOTTA HAVE! as far as towing if I had to haul the Prowler on a open trailer I would, gas milage Who Cares, I just hope that they will offer the Prowler People first shot with coupons to buy at no more than MSRP since the Viper guys got them on the new Viper. I am sure the first years run on these are going to get be over priced just like the Prowler ( by dealers not DC ). From what I have been told the dealer has to be a SRT dealership to sell one, they do not have ordering info, I have my name on a list ( for what thats worth ) at the 2 dealers I buy all my parts at. All I can do is wait.

Bob, I like your idea! I think after both coupon/voucher deals Dodge gave the owners on the '96 GTS Coupe and the '03 SRT, I don't think we will EVER see anything like that again - the abuse of the "system" as well as administering and maintaining it - is making huge nightmares for Dodge!

I saw the 30 second commercial at the start of the race today featuring the "SRT Products". A red Ram SRT-10 truck was there (along with the Viper and Neon). Great shot of it doing a power slide comin' at you. Also new Hemi commercials I haven't seen before.

John, not sure about C5 Corvette guzzler tax (I don't think so, but don't know). On fuel mileage, I average over 23 mpg and get up to 30 mpg on hwy... I have auto with performance rear end... The C5 Vette gets the best gas mileage of any car I have owned (matches my 75 Toyota Corrolo)...

David, I had read they will make this in the Quadcab too. Not 100% sure and of course, would need to know the price.

I'd be real interested in the Quadcab version at a reasonable price.

But, if dealers will be gouging like with first year Prowlers and Vipers, forget it.
