On Sunday, Jimmy Talbot and I made our road racing debut in the Grand Bayou Series on the 1.8 mile track at No Problem...

There were four groups of classes:
1) Formula
2) Red & Blue Bracket
3) Green, Yellow Bracket & Spec Miata
4) Super Production and Vintage V8

Each of these groups ran together in four timed events:
10 minute warmup
15 minute qualifing
15 Heat race
20 minute feature

We were going to run our car in two classes Yellow bracket and Vintage V8. Well, after we both finished our warmup sessions, they politely asked us not to race... We agreed and figured we'd be back...

There were 50+ cars in the races... All makes porsche, bmw and the lil miatas, honda, mazdas are like nats... these lil cars do very well on this track and layout...

Spent two days this week Tues & Wed at the track practicing... Little more practice and we'll be back for the next race on Mar. 22nd...

Here's some pics:

Our race car project (78 Vette). We just got the transmission in on Saturday with new Torque Converter... First time since early December that we were able to run car... Maybe now that it runs we'll paint it sometime before next race...

Super production car. This is the SpeedVison Viper now owned by one of our local Viper & Vette owners...

Another Super Production car - Johnny Walters GT1 700+ HP fastest car on track Sunday...

Kelley.

Our driving experience (or lack of) under high speed conditions... A super production car spun out in turn #1 during the warm ups and I think they felt best not to have two more rookie drivers out in the field that day...There were no injuries but the car ended up on top of the tires and wall... Tow truck did more damage to car when it pulled it off wall...

The series has a 13/13 rule... Any incident and you're on 13 month probation. Another incident and you're banned from the series for 13 months... While this is competitive racing, everyone wants to make sure there car will be back for next race. This is gentlemen's racing much like the Vintage racing series...

Congrats on getting the car done, looks like you are going to have alot of fun. Wished I had the time to do it again and its nice to see that you understood that its about keeping everyone safe on the track that they did not let you run this event, some guys go off the deep end and start trouble. Get your seat time and pay your dues and then go kick so a--! But keep in mind you are going to feel the need for more speed in the future so start setting aside some cash. Good Luck!
