Rented the movie and I should have put the three dollars in gas for the kat and had a good time. We have the movie The Fast and the Furious (being Honda enthusiasts also having a Honda S2000) and we thought this would be good ( in our opinion) movie, also. Same main actor. Good sound but the rest was awful.

Saw the movie this past weekend - great Bond Spoof Stuff!
A little cheesie at times, loved the GTO, and the Corvette scene at the beginning is classic!

We just got XXX on DVD but haven't watched it yet...At home we have a Sony 57" HDTV, DVD player, and Dolby Digital surround sound with a downfiring 200 watt subwoofer.

In other words....if things blow up real good....I'm happy! I also have lower expectations since we don't have to go out to our awful local theaters...Ya know, going OUT to a movie is an event, and you think, "the movie better be worth it for the hassle and prices...." At home, It's much easier to enjoy a movie you might have hated in a theater.

BTW: If you want "Fast and the Furious" to look like a masterpiece on film, just watch Stallone's "Driven"! THAT movie was horrible no matter where you see it....

We have a similiar setup, and yes, you'll love the sound. Most people watch the movies and don't hear (sometimes garbled speech) or miss what they are saying, but since Norm has a hearing problem we also have the subtitles turned on. Now you know actually what they are saying and the dialogue in this movie was corny and unbelievable. . We won't add this one to our collection.

My favorite movie review site is
www.rottentomatoes.com

You pick ANY movie, and it will post EVERY review ever made for that movie, and each review is condensed to a rotten or fresh tomato. then the movie is rated as % fresh or rotten.
The most comprehensive movie review site I know of.

BT, I just tried that site with ABOUT SCHMIDT and it was given 123 good reviews and 18 bad ones. That is the problem with movie reviews. They tend to suck up to the big stars and have to kiss a little butt at work. I thought the movie was pretty bad and they gave it 8.2 out of 10.
I liked when Consumer Reports magazine had ratings in their mag. It was done by regular people and it was always right on. The local paper gave About Schmidt 4 stars.
I realize that is just one example but it has happened too many times for me. Word of mouth is the best way to find out about movies.
My Big fat Greek wedding was only given a 6.8 rating. That was so much better than About Schmidt and it was rated lower.

Ed, for once we agree (that is scary).

My rule of thumb is, if an artsy fartsy movie reviewer likes it, I miss it. If they hate it, I go see it. Those guys are usually only interested in the stars and the "esoteric" value (ie. crappyness). My Left Foot comes to mind.

I have seen very few 4 star movies that I liked.

I have seen many one star movies I loved......

One of my favorite books is "Videohound's Movie retriever Guide" they rate a movie based on fun value, and will rate a movie like Police Academy on the basis that you have 4 beers in you and want to see a dumb movie. The book is much better than Leonard Maltin's book, which indicates that he hates movies in general....
