My friendly neighborhood Dodge dealer just let me know that he just recieved 1 new black SRT for a customer and expects 2 more (he thinks a red and a black) that the certificate holders are backing out of. So he'll be looking to sell these for a REASONABLE PRICE. I wish I was ready to buy another now, but unfortunately not.

I don't work for Dodge, Frank is a just good man and I will always buy my DC products from him.

Call Frank Angst at Glenway Dodge, Cincinnati, OH. 513-574-4000

David,

I'd wait a year (or at least till the end of this one) as prices for new (like everything else) will be artificially inflated (remember the $60K prowlers???)

You may not have to wait that long. Prices are not as high as most expected so I expect you could get a reasonable deal in a few months.

Looks like you can get a reasonable deal now.

I did ask Frank about price when he told me that these may be available. I asked if he'd sell for sticker price, he said "Yes, or less" (Sticker $83,795 I believe)

Considering you can get a new 2002 GTS (sticker $80K) for $64K now, you can see why I would say wait.

I doubt the new ones will be that low. IMO, I'd get the 2002 and pocket the extra $20K+ in something else.

I am on a waiting list, # 13 (18 months or more) for a 2003 Latham Motors(they still have deposit!)They say some people backed out so i'm around # 6 now? I really don't care if i get a 2003, i could wait for a 2004 in fall. I don't think your going to pick-up a 2003 model cheap for a year or two.I think a 2002 should have some value because its the last model year. i also think the 2003 has some value because its the first year of a new model. What do you guys think. Should i wait and get a 2004? + pay sticker? I supposed to pay sticker for a 2003..

The sticker on a new 2002 is $76,000. The 2003 is a totally new vehichle and engine (500hp vs. 450hp).

CT - You should be able to get a 2003 at sticker or less if you like. I went to see the one my local dealer just got in yesterday. It is beautiful! I don't see how you could wait another year!!

Andy--I have a Jag 2003 S Type-R 400HP, 2001 XKR 380 HP, and a 99 XK8 + 2002 Prowler to drive around. I hate Buying New,+ loosing $10000 to $12000 leaving the Lot. I have had good luck Buying cars a Year or two old under 4000 miles, and saving the money. Its nice when you go to sell them, not loosing that much. Thanks CT

That's a good point about buying a lightly used car Chuck. I also bought my Prowler and Viper with low miles and what I felt was a good price.

I was looking at a brand new 2002 GTS and the factory window sticker was $79K+. The RT/10 was $76K. Anyway, you can buy these new from alot of dealers discounted down to $64K for a GTS (new, 2002). That is a pretty hefty discount.
Is the new model really worth that much more for the extra (really not needed) 50hp?

I'm not sure why some people think the last year of a car makes it worth more. Look at the Prowler. I bought a new 2002 yellow (last year) for only $38K so why wouldn't the last year (kind of a misnomer since it really isn't the last year) 2002 Viper be worth more? In fact, I can't think of a single car where a body change made the outgoing model worth more. (everyone wants the new one)

Keep in mind too, with any new car, the first year is the one they work the kinks out with. The first year is usually severlly overpriced for those with cash that HAVE to have it now and HAVE to be first.

Personally, I'll wait and be number 1700 in line but, save $15K

That's a good point CT, however, you can buy a new (no mileage) 2002 Viper discounted $15K+ right now. A 2002 with 4000 miles on it will not be much less (probably can't be cause the guy owes this much on it)

Now is a GREAT time to buy a 2002 Viper

Had an article in the automotive section of the local paper today on the new Viper.

It said that the '03s are not available to the general public. It said that all 1,800 produced were taken by members of the Viper Club. It said the Viper Club had first dibs on them.

YellowF, that was probaby a final edition GTS that you were looking at which is a $3000 option. Both NADA and Kelly Blue Book list 2002 GTS at $73,000 retail (+$3000 gas guzzler).

This was a yellow one with grey stripes. I think the final edition you are speaking of only came in red (I stand to be corrected though)

Randy, I heard that too about the Viper club. Or at least they had first dibs on them.

While it probobaly is faster, I think it lost alot of the character put in the first model. The buldges and scoops defined that car, IMO. The new one looks like a camaro (headon) from a distance....

Ed, that one is spoken for, they are expecting 2 more.

The first dibs on 2003 Vipers were offered not to the Viper Club of America, but to anyone who purchased new and still owned a Viper, whether or not they were a member of the VCA.

YF - you are correct, the final edition were all red with white stripes. I agree about the styling of the new one, seems less radical than the original, less unique.

Tell him you'll take it at that price.

And since he obviously knows the value of beautiful cars he will be the first to realize that your prowler is worth $93K on trade (tell him to hurry though cause they don't make the prowler anymore and it is likely to double in value in the next few weeks)

Seriously though, like I said, wait a year or so and those prices will come WAY down.

Chuck, was that your dealer, Latham at $90,000? I wouldn't pay that, Other dealers around, as I mentioned, are not out to gouge and will charge sticker.

I spoke to Frank at Glenway Dodge and he has had many calls from interested people, and number of whom had check book in hand, so his may be spoken for, but I imagine there may be other smaller dealers in the same situation who don't want that much inventory sitting around and are happy to make a fair profit.

Who are the dealers selling the 2002 Vipers GTS for 64K??? I like the new look of the Viper 2003 but I love the coupe look on the 2002. I have been dealing with Latham Motors and there telling 70K for a 2002 Viper GTS.

Everytime I call Latham, their prices are more then what I find elsewhere. They may be a nice dealer but, their prices are too high, IMO. I'd say just look around (or make an offer to some).

Houston is not typically a town where cars are sold cheap but, if I can find them for this price in this area, they should be out there in others.

What I do is a search for "dodge" and a particular state (or possibly town) on the internet and canvas them for inventory and what they would sell them for.

You should have no problem finding one (or a dozen) for $64K

There are more guys that want 2003 Vipers then they are making. If a dealer has one he's selling it for $90000+ They are in the money making business. They are not going to give any deals, they don't have to!!I'd like to find one dealer out there who would sell a 2003 for sticker or lower. Not going to happen!!!
