Every state has different liquor laws and Ohio used to have 3.2 % beer that you could buy at age 18, but you needed to be 21 to buy 6 % Beer, wine or liquor. That all changed quite a few years ago and we no longer have "lo power" beer. Did your state have 3.2 beer? When I was in the Army, I was in Ft. Lewis, Wash. and you could not pick up your own beer at the bar and walk to a table. A waiter had to move the beer. That was a new one on me, also.

Yes Ed, I sure do. I lived in Connersville, Indiana growing up and when I turned 18, I drove over to Oxford, Ohio (Miami of Ohio) to get 3.2% beer and check out all the college girlies! Great times. I think Nancy went over to look at the boys. She is much younger than me!!!! Rolled my dad's Nash returning from Oxford one night after one to many pitchers of 3.2. Police took me home. No ticket! Also, 3.2 was all you could buy at the Reds ball park. Yes, I remember when you could not move your drink in Indiana from table to table. I remember. I wonder why?

Pennsylvania did not have 3.2 beer, but I went to college in Virginia and they did. As a matter of fact, it was available on campus.

Kansas had 3.2 beer, and when I was 16 the guys would drive down to the small farm towns in Kansas to drink in the bars. They didn't care about not being 18 to drink, the bar owners just wanted the extra money.

Late 60's in New Castle, In. we made the short trip to New Paris, Oh. or to the Triangle in Greenville, Oh.....was sort of a teen nightclub(bands/beer/women)......cars always drove smoother on the way home Ran hard from Greenville to Muncie, In. one evening, and by the time we got back to Ball State campus the big black SS396 was overheating and the outside temp was about 10 below zero....pouring water from milk bottles(bottles were in the aluminum box on the neighbors porch) into the radiator, tightening the screws on the lower radiator hose with a swiss army knife and then we had to cut off some of my buddies long hair with a large hunting knife(hair was frozen to the street from spilling water on him while he was tightening the hose)....met the campus cops(Barney and Elroy) that nite...finally rolled in home just in time to go to work the next morning...it was a LONG DAY at work !!!....but I was 18 and didn't seem to need much sleep so we went back to the Triangle the next night too !!!

This subject came up after we were discussing how old you have to be to be a waiter or waitress now. Sandy does not remember 3.2 beer. She is 50. She asked how you could tell the lo power from hi power. I don't think we had canned beer (maybe the coned topped cans) and the bottled beer had different colored caps. No 6 % on Sunday, either.

Tangled, I made the trip to New Paris, Ohio (The Lamp Post) many times to drink 3.2 and eat pizza. Also made many scary trips to and from Greenville, Ohio to the Triangle for 3.2 and to square dance. What great times. I guess some of us Prowler guys had some of the same interests.

Ed...I am 51 and remember it well....Sandy must have been a "good girl" and not out running with us young barbarians ....in '71 I left the country for a couple of years(worked for my UNCLE) and when I came back to Indiana I was well past 21....don't know when 3.2 beer disappeared.....in China, when I lived there('71-'73) the kids walked into the bars and got anything they wanted....but then again, kids(bargirls) were running the bars too...there are 8 million stories in the "Naked City"...don't get me started of I will tell the other 7,999,999 later kid

Tangled, I think Sandy just has Alzheimers about selected topics, hahaha. She probably never bought beer, just drank it.

I remember it well. While in college (Western Michigan) we would drive to Toledo, OH and stock up and have a blast. Never go stopped or caught, so we did good. Ah!! the old times, were good.

We are in the process of planning a ski trip to Utah for next month and I did some research on their liquor laws. From what I read, grocery stores and such can only sell 3.2% beer. State run liquor stores, restaurants and private clubs can sell the real stuff however. I thought the same thing was true in Colorado.-Pete

Dave...the Lamp Post was the place to be alright....anyone remember the bar in Greenville that had the Go-Go dancer in the cage ???...the bar was near the circle.....one last story PROMISE....several cars coming back one evening from New Paris....one car in our little caravan, a silver '69 SS396/375 Nova flips over on a curve not to far from home...upon close inspection, no one was hurt too bad(minor cuts/bruises)...beer was thrown all over the field, so we just decided to have the party there...all was going well till the cops showed up...car was totaled, fence and crop was damaged to some extent....we lost a whole trunk load of beer to the mud and corn that nite....no one was arrested, just told to leave....owner of the Nova had another new car('70 silver Vette conv.) the next week and we were off to the races again.......SLOW LEARNERS

Okay Richard, what brand was that? I thought diff. brands had diff. colors but that may not be correct. When I first posted this I thought it had been AT LEAST 20 years ago but then CJ said she thought her kids talked about it. I asked my oldest son nand he seemed to think it was still around in 1985 or so. He worked in a supermarket and said it was still around but then said it was Hudey Delight. I then asked a few of my buddies and they thought it was longer ago than that also. I really do not know the answer. Wild Thing, I would bet there is a lot more moonshine in KY and Tenn. than RI. Ky is close. I have very funny true story about me & moonshine but it will not be told here, EVER. In person, I will tell it but not on the WWW.

Growing up in Minnesota we had 3.2 and 6.0. No break on the age for the 3.2, both were 21. 3.2 was sold in grocery stores and bars without a liquor license where you had to bring your own bottle. The "good" stuff was sold in bars were they served mixed drinks and liquor stores. Here in Iowa though, all they have is 3.2 Can't have them tractors swerving all over they road now.

Richard beat me to it, the Red Cap thing. I believe 3.2 went out in the late 70's because I began drinking around '83 and there was no 3.2 then (that I remember) Also in 1985 Ohio drinking age went from 18 to 19 to 21. I got lucky and could drink at 19 where some of my slightly younger friends could drink (buy it) until 21.
