Could someone please tell me the difference between Xenon and HID headlights? Looked at the 350Z and it has HID, while the 330i has xenons.

Thanks

Xenon refers to the noble gas in which the electric arc is made, and HID
stands for High Intensity Discharge - the name for the technology. For
marketers, it's easier to make "Xenon" sound cool...

Hope this helps!

More info.

HID, or High Intensity Discharge, is the superset and includes many types of
lamps that are based on an electrically excited gas molecule emitting light.
In theory these HIDs work in very much the same way as the common
fluorescent lamps that we are all familiar with, but HID's use much higher
voltage, have a much heavier duty ballast and when combined with certain
gases produce a very intense output of light.

Xenon is one particular type of gas used in HIDs, and is the type that's
used in cars. Other types of HIDs are Metal Halides, used in gymnasiums,
factories and greenhouses and Sodium Vapor, used in street lights and
tropical greenhouses.

In other words both the 350Z and the 330i have HID/Xenon's.
