It's usually the period when we "grew up", danced, fell in love over and over, etc..... For me that would be the 50s and 60s and of those two I still listen to the 60s the most and can immediately recall all the words = weird since I can't remember anything else too well. |

Rich, the TV station that ran the poll, appeals to the baby boomers and older folks. I agree with your theory, totally. |

I am another one that is stuck in the 50's and 60's. That is still the music that I prefer. |

I would have to say the 60's but I agree with CJ, there are some good tunes even today. It is just that the 60's your can hear the music and hear the words at the same time. I vote 60's and I'm sticking with it... |

As I get older I find myself listening to the stuff I didn't like as a kid. I like 50's and 60's now. |

Late 50's, 60's and early 70's Rock-N-Roll really gets me pumped up when cruising in the Prowler! |

I actually like most kinds of music....with a few exceptions. Every time I get to see my son, he hooks me up with some new music that he listens to......he's introduced me to a lot of things I never thought I'd like. Norah Jones, Delirium, Morcheeba, Vanessa Carlton, Amelia Torrini, Mazzy Star, Gry..... But I still love the old 50's, 60's stuff with a lot in between! |

`50's & `60's for me beach boys, chubby checker, Jan & Dean, etc.... but like the `70's too the music I really grew up with would be the `70's but the main station I listen to is an oldies some `70's but mainly older stuff and I love it |

After listening to the oldies since they were "newies" I find nyself bored with the majority of them....Doors were ALWAYS my favorite, but have even tired of them....spend lots of time downloading tunes these days and have discovered my taste in music has drastically changed.....current favorites, John Mayer, Echo and the Bunnymen, Pete Yorn, Norah Jones, Avril Lavigne Phantom Planet....rule at my house and in my cars is NO COUNTRY AND NO RAP.....have even been listening to a lot of 50's stuff, Louis Prima/Keeley Smith....Dean Martin, all sorts of stuff that I laughed at when I was young...to me the key is variety...still like the late 60's stuff very well, but not the mainstream hits....go for the obscure stuff.... |

A little trivia for you 60's music fans....remember the group Vanilla Fudge "Whiter Shade of Pale", a late 60's supergroup.... anyway, thier LAST live performance was at my local highschool, drew a crowd of roughly 30 people.....nearly put the local radio station out of business, cost $10,000. to hire them(tix were $6.), plus expenses....the radio station was wanting to start their own "Woodstock" series here in the fall of 69....didn't work.....our highschool field house still carries the title of the "largest highschool field house in the world"...it seats nearly 10,000 people, was built for a town of 20,000 population....dreamers....was always filled for basketball in the old days, but nothing else ever came close to filling all the seats....early seventies saw the Carpenters perform here and Jon Provost(second Timmy on Lassie series)did a religious show here once....others have come and gone, but those stand out in my mind at this point in time...."Timmy" drew a slightly larger crowd than the Vanilla Fudge !!! |

I hate to do this, but I like this music and Vanilla Fudge was a good group who did "People Get Ready", "Season of the Witch," "My World is Empty Without You" and a bunch of other songs but never, to my knowledge, "Whiter Shade of Pale" - that was an original by Procol Harum and then covered some years later by The Moody Blues. No wonder that concert didn't draw a crowd. |

Rich, I have a Moody Blues CD that I bought about 10 years ago after seeing "The Moody Blues at Red Rock" on Public Television. It is still one of my favorites. |

BT 161: I agree. Classic 70's rock. Foghat, Styx, Foreigner, early Van Halen and the mighty KISS. As Paul Stanley has said, "Always remember to Rock and Roll all Nite and Party Every Day!" Kevin ------------------ |

Rich....correctamundo on Whiter Shade of Pale.....I got my trivia wrong.....BRAIN shorted out for a second....Season of the witch has lots of covers(even V.F.), but I always remembered Donovan as the original on this.....maybe not....think the Vanilla Fudge song that was a hit was "You Keep Me Hangin On"...........another fairly obscure hit, anyone remember "What About Me" Quicksilver Messenger Service ??? ps, one of the best covers on "Season of the Witch" is Luna....I especially like new versions of old classics.....Check out :People Are Strange" by Echo and the Bunnymen....lots of Hendrix songs covered out there these days and most are quite good..... |

Here in MD we have a "local" cover band called Tranzfusion. They do covers of Doors, Stones, Santana, U2, etc. The kicker is that they sound EXACTLY like every band they imitate, even rotating their singers to match the band. Every song they do is note for note perfect. Sitting in a bar and watching them play is a real experience. and yup, Procul Harem did Whiter Shade of Pale, and Conquistador. Vanilla Fudge did Keep me Hangin on which was a cover of a Dianna Ross song! they slowed the time to half and made it their own. I like a lot of new music though...... Oldies in heavy rotation: |
