I have been looking into lifts for a bit now - can someone please tell me what the main selling attractions were for the Double Park -vs- others ? I have found a company called Backyard Buddy and it looks like an extremely well made lift - right here in Ohio. Has been ANSI Tested. And they are willing to cut me a price break if I can get two or more. Anyone know anything about them ?

Thanks,

John

I've seen the Direct Lift at 3 different shows and looked it over. It looks almost identical to my Cytech lift for only $1,995 VS $3,200. I'm not sure what is different other than it is painted all black and the cytech is red & gray. I spoke to the guy in florida and he said they make it and sell it, instead of buying and putting "their name" on it. Not real sure but I would look at it if I were going to buy one again. That is $1,200 savings.

Larry,

I spoke with the folks at BackYard Buddy and that is what they told me - Cytech and Direct Lift are almost the same thing - he noted the few differences but basically gave me all the reasons that the Backyard buddy was better - which made sense - Plastic Guides, Welded vs slotted stops, etc.

You can get a direct lift at the shows for $1995 plus they throw in the wheels, jack kit and something else.... it was an unbelievable deal, but I was able to compare the direct lift with the Backyard Buddy. The Backyard Buddy seemed to be of higher quality to me. Are they all safe ? Backyard buddy pushes theirs as the safest lift. Some of the design features looked much stronger than the Direct Lift..... and if the Double Park is essentially the same as the Direct Lift, then the guys at Backyard Buddy are being honest with me.......

Thanks,

John

PS. I also have contacted the Direct Lift folks and no one has returned my calls or emails....... business must be good !

I will step up and ay that Cytech (aka Double Park) was extremely excellent to work with on the purchase of both my lifts and the installation and even move of my original lift from old house to new house. I worked with Darren who put the last group buy together for the POA. I believe that the Double Park is the only one commercially rated based on cylindar (sp?) size, one piece and thickness of platform plates and the welded (they are not slotted) stops in verying locations. Theirs is also a powder coated surface verus paint. I love their product and did shop around before making the decission to select theirs. I feel it i well worth the money.

Mike has had 3 Cyteck lifts for a few years and they are very well made. We have never had any problem with them. Yes, theirs is the only one that is rated.

We feel very safe walking and working under them and never worried about the cars stored on the top.

We still have one lift for sale for $2,500.00.

So if the Cytech and the Direct lift are almost identical anyone else know why I should spend the extra $1200 ? Also, does anyone have an experience with Backyard Buddy - it is more expensive also but looks much stronger than either the Direct lift or the Cytech... Appreciate the feedback

Sincerely,

John

Compare the spec sheets and call all three companies for info ... Back Yard buddy is NOT more robust than Cytech, and if I recall ... someone's lift is/was actually made by Cytech and is being sold under different name ... ask questions ... money saved is often money regretted ... lessons learned the hard way ... good luck

I think the difference is in the hydrylic cylinder and cable size. I believe the Cytech has more capcity in this area. Of course the back yard guy will say his is best.

I think Al's Prowler and Andy R both have Back Yard Buddys. Maybe they can provide some input. I have had absolutely no problems with my Doublepark. Call Darren at Doublepark for a comparison. He seems like a straight shooter.

John and I emailed about the Buddy.

For all others I do have the Buddy and feel that is safe and like the locking mechanism. As with any of these lifts, I think the most important factor is that the user understands how the lift works and is alert when operating it. I think the paint may be a little less quality than the DPark (some flaking in used areas), but I am probably the only one who notices.

Here's a picture of it in action in my garage:

I noticed and thought it looked horrible. Richard said he would bring some spray paint to the next party and fix it to spare you the humiliation. lol.

Eagle-Eye-Ed, can you explain to us why Andy has the Viper in front of the Prowler banner and the Prowler in front of the Viper banner? Surely you asked about that (sharp as you are - we know not much gets past you - and surely not this! )

The negative got reversed? lol. The cars are interchangeable but he does not change the banners everytime he uses a car. When the cars are stacked they are both in one stall. When he gets in one car he can look in the mirror and see he owns another neat car, according to the banner behind him.
Any of those will do or it could be that he didn't notice it.

Andy,

Thanks for letting me look at the lift - your house (and Garage) are wonderful. I really liked the quality of the lift. The BackYard Buddy certainly looks like a well constructed unit.

Steve - I'll give you a call. I want to see the Double Park too. I have sent them two email messages about literature but have heard nothing - I'll phone them tomorrow.

Sincerely,

John
