Went out looking for xmas stuff and noticed that xmas trees are as high as $30.00 . How about the prices around your neck of the woods. I guess our last year tree will be good enough. ------------------ New pictures in Personal Scrapbook (9/26/02) |

I bought a 7' artificial tree at K-Mart 5 years ago for $35 on sale. Not only is this a really nice looking tree, but it has 1000 lights permanently wired to it. It came with a stand and 3 tree sections, which you simply stack on top of one another and plug in. Since my job is to set up the tree and put the lights on, it now takes me about 5 minutes. My wife does the decorating. I love this tree. Kraut |

Up until about 4 years ago, we were paying market rates: $6 to $7 PER FOOT! We said nuts to that and went to Wal-Mart and got a nice looking permanent tree for $47.00. The ONLY way to go, especially with small kids! Kevin ------------------ |

I prefer artificial trees. I find no sense in cutting down a perfectly good live tree. I put up 8 trees in my house and 1 at the cottage. They range in size from 2 feet to 9 1/2 feet. I can put them up as early as I want and leave them up as late as I want. They last a long time, one of which I've had for over 25 years! |

I get a Christmas tree off of my own property each year as I have about 3,000-4,000 young firs. We also give trees to people who we think can't afford one. If you show up in your Kat, I will give you a free tree big enough to fill up your trunk and that's a GOOD DEAL! They don't call me Santa for nothing! Bill in Oregon |

We have always done the traditional ritual of looking for the perfect cut Christmas tree. Last year the douglas furs were running $7 to $8 per foot so our 8' tree was over $60.00. Rebecca finally got me to break down and go for an artificial one this year. We bought it a week and half ago at at Target for 33% off. It has the lights pre wired, so that was pretty kool. Still miss the smell, though! |

I just get one of those pine freshener trees at the car wash. It is kind of hard to put lights and ornaments on it, though. |

The trees that are harvested for Christmas are grown for that specific purpose so they are not thinning the wooded areas. They are coming from plantations. Also, my neighbor across the street works for Green Thumb (that is how I knew about their sale) and he is the master of garden, trees and plants. You show this guy a plant and he can tell you its history. Anyway, he said that all the plantation trees start getting cut in September and are put in a warehouse that is temperature/humidity controlled so the trees don't lose their moisture (Until they leave the warehouse). So the longer it has been out of the warehouse, the deader it will be. The tree we purchased came off the truck the day before (so about 3 days out of the warehouse). In a few years the ranch next to us will be selling cut-it-yourself trees (they are only about 2 feet tall right now). The boys will be working there by then and we should get a pretty good deal then too If you recycle the tree afterwards, it will get turned into chips and is great for mulch! I love the smell of a fresh tree
