After over 27 years in the Marine Corp, being shot, shot at, hit, bit, kicked and fragged I plan to retire. I'm thinking about Las Vegas...employment, mild climate, low cost of living, and military medical (Nellis, AFB) nearby. The added plus is great Prowling and Vipering weather.

Where are the good neighborhoods and which ones should I avoid? I'm not leaving the service a rich man and will need to continue to work so no high-end neighborhoods.

I could have saved more money, and not have to work full time, if I hadn't bought the Prowler and Viper but I know I won't live forever so I'm enjoying life today and will see what tomorrow brings. My life has passed before me a couple of times and I decided I need to enjoy it more and move on.

I will be going to Las Vegas next week to look at houses and could really use some input. My plan is to move my wife there before I redeploy to the middle east one last time. I'm sure I will find a job, heck I think I can do anything.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Howard

Aloha Howard:
I used to live in Pearl City and relocated to Nevada......Northern Navada that is. As long as you are in the "checking it out" mode I would explore the Reno/Sparks area as well as Las Vegas.

Howard-- My Ex-wife was a realtor for 25 yrs--My new wife also is a realtor. I'm a builder-Developer, My advise to you is Rent for a year, see if you like the area, neighborhood etc. You might buy and decide you would rather had bought somewhere else.I know people who have moved more than once in the same town. It also gives you a year to look for a property thats truly to your liking!! Good Luck.. You Guys are the Best, thats why our country is the best. Chuck

Are you sure the far north doesn't appeal to you at all?

A friend of mine has a house for sale in Vegas. It is somewhere shy of $200K. If you're interested send me an e-mail and I'll get you in touch with him.

It's funny, we all slave and work to retire to move to paradise.

Marineguns is there and wants to retire back here.

The grass truly is always greener on the other side, I guess...LOL!

Well, at least both locals have sand!

Guns - I like the Henderson or Boulder City area myself. You might email Leon Pearson or MadMikey,,,,cat owners in Vegas, for their opinions.
