My computer emits a cricket noise from the speakers but it is not really consistent. When I first heard it a few months ago I thought I had a cricket behind the desk. Anyone have any ideas? I wonder if it has anything to do with a virus. I just received 5 notices that my emails could not be delivered. I did not send any of them so I suppose KLEZ is still being distributed in my name. |

Ed, The only thing I can think of is you probably want to limit it down to speakers or computer. If you have access to an additional pair of speakers or can go buy a cheap set (you could always return them) hook those up and see if the problem persists. Have you installed anything lately on the machine? I know I had two separate computers hooked up to the same speakers. They hissed (sorry I just had déjà vu on a previous post about FM modulation J) something terrible. I figured they were bad but never replaced them. Then when I went to Windows XP a few weekends ago, they were perfect. I assume a driver or something cleared it up. At least this gives you somewhat of a place to start. Are you sure there isn’t a cricket in there? ------------------ |

I can assure you it's not a virus. And it's probably not your stereo speakers (if you have them). Most pc's have a small speaker in them. Not so much for music but, tones like beeps and clicks to inform you about something happening or going wrong. What can make the sound? Perhaps leaning on a combination of keys, the speaker going bad, loose wire, etc. Shouldn't be serious but, check it out when you get a chance. |

Ed - you haven't by any chance downloaded a program called weatherbug have you? It is a weather watching/forcast program. When there is a weather alert, it emits a cricket sound. ------------------ |
